The new-gen BMW M2 first broke cover in October 2022. A few months later, it debuted in the UAE. Now, India has got it. Like the previous one, the new M2 lands on Indian shores as a direct import. And that attracts steep taxes. As a result, it has an ex-showroom price tag of INR 98 lakh. That means the pocket-sized rocket costs more than both variants of the i4 eDrive40 and even the recently-launched X3 M340i. But then, the new M2 offers so much more without occupying much room in the garage.
Powering the two-door four-seater is a turbocharged 3.0-litre, six-cylinder petrol engine that produces 460hp/550Nm. By default, it comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, which routes all the oomph to the rear wheels. With that combination, the new BMW M2 can hit 100kmph from a standstill in 4.1 seconds, reach 200kmph in 13.5 seconds and register 250kmph before running into the electronic speed governors. The purists can go with the optional 6-speed manual, which offers more control but isn’t as slick as the auto box. Another option to consider is the M Driver’s package, which ups the top speed to 285kmph.
To ensure the driver can relish the punchy performance, BMW has equipped the M2 with an active M differential, launch control and multiple drive modes – Comfort, Sport, and Sport Plus. The coupe also packs cruise control with braking function and speed limiter, and M Drive for individual drive settings.
As standard, the new BMW M2 comes with features like adaptive LED headlights, a dual exhaust system with electrically-controlled flaps, rain-sensing wipers, two-zone automatic climate control, M Sports seats, auto-dimming IRVM and a 14-speaker 464-watt Harman Kardon sound system. The same list also includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, connected-car features, a head-up display and Parking Assistant.
The options list? Apart from the two features mentioned above, this one also has jet black light alloy wheels, full leather ‘Merino’ upholstery, M Sports Pro package, Driving Assistant and Active Cruise Control. BMW offers the new M2 in five colours – white, black, blue, grey and red.
