Audi is introducing a new generation of V6 TDI engines producing 299 bhp and 580 Nm of torque, incorporating the MHEV plus system, which provides up to an additional 24 bhp and represents a significant advancement over previous technologies. This system is based on three main electrical components: the powertrain generator, the belt-driven starter generator, and the lithium iron phosphate battery. The powertrain generator powers the engine and generates electricity for the battery, supporting partial electric driving in low-speed urban environments or during manoeuvres. The generator provides an additional 230 Nm of torque and up to 24 bhp of power during acceleration or overtaking, while recovering up to 25 kW of energy during deceleration.

The most significant innovation in this generation is the new electric compressor, which works in conjunction with the conventional turbocharger in a two-stage charging system. This compressor helps boost the air pressure entering the combustion chamber, virtually eliminating turbo lag and ensuring immediate response even at low engine speeds. The compressor has been developed to operate across the entire engine speed range, with improved airflow and a permanent magnet synchronous motor, making it more powerful and efficient than the previous generation used in models such as the S4, S6, and SQ5.

The collaboration between the electric compressor and the powertrain generator enables a maximum boost pressure of 3.6 bar approximately 1 second earlier, resulting in more powerful, smoother acceleration and a feel closer to electric driving. The compressor reaches 90,000 rpm in just 250 milliseconds, a 40% improvement over previous systems.

As part of its commitment to sustainability, the new engine uses sustainable HVO 100 fuel, compliant with the European standard EN 15940 and designated XTL. This fuel reduces CO2 emissions by 70% to 95% because it is produced from vegetable oils and recycled waste, such as used cooking oil. New Audi vehicles leave its German factories filled with this environmentally friendly fuel, reflecting the company’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint without compromising performance.
