airBaltic Now Has 50 Airbus A220-300s

Latvia’s flag carrier, airBaltic, has strengthened its fleet further by adding the 50th Airbus A220-300. Bearing registration number YL-ABX, the aircraft flaunts a striking livery inspired by the Latvian flag, complemented by design elements representing all three Baltic States – Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania. The artwork depicts a woman soaring through the clouds while holding the Latvian flag. Accompanying that image are cues reflecting the heritage and natural beauty of the Baltic region, including a ladybug, a swallow, and a stork. It took 18 days to complete the livery, featuring 21 colours. The aircraft will enter service by the end of February 2025.

It was in 2016 when airBaltic became the launch operator of the Airbus A220-300. By May 2020, the airline shifted all its commercial operations to the said aircraft type. The carrier head honcho, Martin Gauss, confirms that hitting the 50 aircraft mark is a significant milestone. However, the airline expects to have all 100 A220s in its fleet per the original order by the decade’s end.
