Air India Discloses A New Deal With Airbus

Besides placing a firm order for more jets, the Indian carrier has also opted for Airbus’ Flight Hour Services-Component for its A350 fleet.

In February 2023, Airbus and Air India struck a deal for 250 aircraft. The count comprised 140 A320neo, 70 A321neo, 34 A350-1000, and six A350-900 aeroplanes. The six A350-900s have already been delivered. However, Air India has disclosed an additional firm order for 100 Airbus jets. The order includes 10 A350s and 90 single-aisle jets from the A320neo family, including the A321neo. Iron out the math; the result is an order book of 344 jets that have yet to be delivered by Airbus to Air India.

In addition to ordering more aircraft, Air India has also selected Airbus’ Flight Hour Services-Component. This will help the airline effectively maintain its growing fleet of A350s, as the package provides engineering and integrated component services by the aircraft manufacturer.

Air India’s Airbus A350 fleet is powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines, providing better operational efficiency and reduced noise compared to previous-gen aircraft. The A320 family jets, on the other hand, get their thrust from CFM LEAP 1-A engines.
