Two airlines, Air India and Kenya Airways, have had an interline partnership for some time. This partnership enables passengers to travel on a single itinerary between any of the 28 points in Africa and any of the 15 points in India. The duo has now deepened ties with the launch of a codeshare agreement.
According to the paperwork, Air India will place its code ‘AI’ on twice-daily flights between Nairobi and Mumbai, operated by Kenya Airways. Passengers with codeshare tickets can travel aboard Air India flights to and from Bangkok, Colombo, Dhaka, Malé, Melbourne and Singapore. This widens the scope for travellers from Africa, as the list complements their choices across India and aboard when travelling with Air India on the Nairobi-Delhi route.
On the other hand, Kenya Airways will print its code ‘KQ’ on Air India-operated flights between Delhi and Nairobi. This will allow passengers from across Africa to travel to the Indian capital via Nairobi on a single ticket and unified baggage policy.
The duo plans to expand their codeshare agreement with more destinations gradually. Tickets for the codeshare flights are available via the official websites of both airlines and through travel agents.
