What is the Renault Triber Turbo?

The Renault Triber Turbo is a newly launched version of the brand’s compact seven-seater MPV. The new Turbo version is positioned above the standard Triber. The Turbo iteration solves one of the biggest criticisms the model has received since its launch in the Indian market: the naturally aspirated 1.0-litre petrol engine seen on the standard model has been criticised for being lethargic and underpowered, especially when the vehicle is at full occupancy.

The new model is based on Renault’s updated Renault Group Entry Platform, or RGEP. This replaces the earlier CMF-A platform designation and allows the architecture to accommodate petrol, turbo-petrol, CNG, AMT and CVT powertrains.

What engine powers the Triber Turbo?

The Renault Triber Turbo uses a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, derived from the turbocharged unit used in the Renault Kiger and Duster. The engine produces 100 PS and 180 Nm of torque, paired with a five-speed manual. The claimed 0-100 Kph time is 10.8 seconds.

Is the Triber Turbo more fuel-efficient?

Renault claims a fuel-efficiency figure of 21kpl for the Triber Turbo. This is higher than the claimed 19.76kpl figure of the naturally aspirated manual version. However, it is to be noted that turbocharged engines are quite temperamental when it comes to fuel efficiency; the real-world figure will depend on the usage patterns.

What mechanical changes does it get?

Renault has made several changes beyond fitting a turbocharged engine. The Turbo version uses approximately 10 per cent more high-strength steel in its structure, which is intended to improve durability and stiffness. The Triber Turbo is approximately 80kg heavier than the standard Triber. 

The Renault Triber Turbo receives:

How does it look?

The Renault Triber Turbo retains the same overall Compact MPV silhouette and proportions as the standard model. The most significant visual identifier is a Turbo badge on the tailgate. It features a gloss-black grille with Renault’s updated logo, LED headlamps, LED daytime-running lamps and a broad lower air intake.

The Triber Turbo also features functional roof rails, gloss-black outside rear-view mirrors and gloss-black door handles.

How practical is the cabin?

The Renault Triber Turbo retains the standard model’s highly flexible cabin, which is one of its strongest selling points. Despite its compact exterior dimensions, the MPV can accommodate up to seven occupants and can be configured in multiple seating and luggage arrangements.
