The Mercedes-Benz GLA will be released with new styling, modified dimensions, new technology, and powertrain choices including fully electric and electrified combustion engines. The compact SUV comes with a modified wheelbase, a new interior and increased practicality together with a range of the latest infotainment and driver assistance technology.
What are the modifications to the exterior design?
The new Mercedes-Benz GLA now has a lowered roofline, an increased wheelbase of 61 mm and widened rear track, giving it a more planted look. Fully electric variants will have an illuminated front grille, while hybrids get a new one with chrome star-shaped elements. LED headlights are standard, and buyers can optionally opt for MULTIBEAM LED units. Four trim levels are offered for the GLA, including Style, Progressive, AMG Line and AMG Line Plus, as well as an optional Night Edition.
What are the possible powertrain choices?
Mercedes-Benz offers three electric models for the GLA. The base model is the GLA 200 electric, with 221 bhp output from a 58 kWh battery. There is the GLA 250+ electric version that provides 268 bhp of output due to an 85 kWh battery pack. Finally, there is the top-end version – the GLA 350 4MATIC electric, providing 349 bhp, 0-100 kmph acceleration in 5.4 seconds, with the same 85 kWh battery pack. The maximum WLTP range quoted by Mercedes-Benz is 657 km. DC fast charging technology supports 320 kW of power input, enabling 270 km of range within 10 minutes in the WLTP cycle.
Hybrid variants coming out in early 2027 will feature a new generation of 1.5-litre turbocharged gasoline engine coupled with a 48-volt mild hybrid system.
What are the changes inside the car?
The new model is equipped with an upgraded dashboard designed around an optional MBUX Superscreen, which integrates a 10.25-inch driver display with up to two 14-inch screens. The extended wheelbase offers extra space for both front and rear passengers, while the standard panoramic roof creates additional space in the cabin. The luggage space is enlarged to 410 litres with the possibility of increasing the cargo hold up to 1,400 litres when folding the rear seats. Electric variants have an additional 107-litre front compartment.
What are the technological and safety upgrades?
The GLA uses the latest MB.OS software by Mercedes-Benz with the advanced MBUX Virtual Assistant supporting natural-language voice command recognition. The navigation system uses Google Maps with built-in EV routing, charging stations, and real-time traffic data. The driver assistance package includes adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane change on compatible roads, as well as improved parking assistance with a 360-degree camera. In addition, four-wheel drive models receive a dedicated TERRAIN mode and a “Transparent Bonnet” feature allowing the visualisation of what is under the car during off-road driving.
Mercedes-Benz claims that its electric GLA can cut its carbon footprint by 40% compared to the conventional internal combustion engine variant, owing to the use of more recyclable materials in manufacturing and lower-carbon battery production.
The new Mercedes-Benz GLA will go on sale from 30 July 2026, with deliveries beginning in November 2026. In Germany, the electric range begins at roughly $56,900 for the GLA 200 electric, while the GLA 250+ electric goes for about $64,400 and the GLA 350 4MATIC electric is priced at $68,000. The hybrids will follow in early 2027.
