IWC Schaffhausen introduces the new Ceralume® luminous ceramic technology

Part – 3: It makes its debut in the Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar Ceralume®. It is limited to 250 pieces.

For Watches and Wonders Geneve 2026, IWC Schaffhausen (“IWC”) has introduced the Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar Ceralume, a watch that debuts the brand’s proprietary Ceralume luminous ceramic technology.

“Ceralume® is the result of a multi-year development effort by IWC’s engineering division XPL, which was supported by experts from RC Tritec. This leading Swiss technology company is renowned for its Super-LumiNova® luminous pigments. Acting similar to a light-storage battery, this ceramic compound absorbs light energy from sunlight or artificial light and re-emits it as visible light, a cycle that can be repeated indefinitely.”

Image: “To enhance the striking glow effect created by the luminous ceramic case, the white dial and the white rubber strap are also enriched with Super-LumiNova® pigments. These pigments function like a light storage battery, allowing the entire watch to glow in a vivid blue hue for more than 24 hours.”

The Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar Ceralume features a Ceralume white luminous ceramic case measuring 46.5 mm (diameter) * 15.9 mm (thickness). Its white luminous dial is enriched with Super-LumiNova pigments. The numerals and indices are printed in a different shade of white on the dial, and the grey hands are filled with luminous material.

Dial side features a convex sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides and caseback features a sapphire crystal. The crown and caseback ring are made from stainlesss steel. It is water resistant to 10 bar or approximately 100 metres. It comes with a white luminous rubber strap enriched with Super-LumiNova pigments and fitted with a stainless steel folding clasp.

It is powered by IWC-manufactured calibre 52616, a 4 Hz or 28,800 vph automatic movement with the brand’s Pellaton automatic winding system that drives the hours, minutes, small hacking seconds, power reserve display, perpetual calendar functions of date, day of the week, month, year (4 digits) and perpetual moon phase for both the northern and southern hemispheres. The movement comprises of 54 jewels and has a power reserve of 7 days or 168 hours.
