Hublot’s daring world of bold design codes

Part 4: We look at the Big Bang & Spirit of Big Bang Coal Blue, Classic Fusion models in Sage Green, Spirit of Big Bang Year of the Horse Frosted Carbon and Classic Fusion Chronograph UEFA Europa League Titanium Carbon.

What’s life without a bit of adventure. For Hublot, with its mastery of material innovation and complications, colours and craftsmanship and iconic designs in its catalogue, experimenting with bold and daring design codes adds to its horological repertoire. We look at a few Hublot models and designs that embody this to the fullest, be it dial patterns, case shapes, colours and other aspects.

Big Bang & Spirit of Big Bang Coal Blue

This range of four models are clothed in light coal blue, “a new colour for Hublot, radiating a mysterious and subtle minerality and developed specifically for these four new references. It offers a novel and unexpected alternative within the Big Bang family, which is known for its bright, vibrant shades.”

The Big Bang Original Unico Titanium Coal Blue (bottom left on image) and Spirit of Big Bang Titanium Coal Blue (top right on image) feature a solid dial with a geometric pattern; a stamped satin-finished coal blue “Carbon Effect” dial. (The Spirit of Bing Bang is the brand’s tonneau case shape.) The former’s bezel is made from satin-finished and polished titanium and features a structured pattern on the side, and the latter’s bezel is made from satin-finished, polished and microblasted titanium.

“They share a common feature: a dial inspired by the pattern of carbon fibre. It weaves a colour chart with alternating satin-finished and polished squares, with a reworked 3D effect to give it more depth and a new geometry.”

Both models’ respective cases are made from satin-finished and polished titanium and feature dial side and caseback sapphire crystals with anti-reflective treatment. The Big Bang Original Unico Titanium Coal Blue’s case measures 43 mm (diameter) * 13.20 mm (thickness) and Spirit of Big Bang Titanium Coal Blue’s measures 42 mm (diameter) * 14.10 mm (thickness). Both models have a water resistance of 100 metres. The Big Bang Original Unico Titanium Coal Blue comes with a coal blue structured rubber strap whereas Spirit of Big Bang Titanium Coal Blue comes with a coal blue lined rubber strap. Both are fitted with a titanium deployant buckle clasp.

The Big Bang Original Unico Titanium Coal Blue is powered by HUB1280, the brand’s Manufacture automatic movement that features a column wheel flyback chronograph. It drives the central hours and minutes, small seconds at 9 o’clock, central flyback seconds, 60-minute counter at 3 o’clock and date at 4.30. It comprises 354 parts and 43 jewels, beats at a modern rate of 4 Hz or 28,800 vph and has a power reserve of (approximately) 72 hours. It features a Swiss silicon lever escapement.

The Spirit of Big Bang Titanium Coal Blue is powered by HUB4700, an automatic skeleton chronograph movement that drives the central hours and minutes, small seconds at 9 o’clock, central flyback seconds, 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock and date at 4.30. It comprises 278 parts and 31 jewels, beats at a high frequency of 5 Hz or 36,000 vph and has a power reserve of (approximately) 50 hours. It features a Swiss silicon lever escapement.

The other two models in this range, Big Bang One Click Coal Blue Diamonds and Spirit of Big Bang Coal Blue Diamonds feature a satin-finished coal blue dial with a sunburst finish. Both models “reflect the mineral character of the Coal Blue through the use of carbon in its purest state: diamond.”

The respective polished stainless steel bezels of the Big Bang One Click Coal Blue Diamonds are set with 36 diamonds (0.76 carats) and Spirit of Big Bang Coal Blue Diamonds with 44 diamonds (0.7 carats). Colour F G. Clarity VVS and excellent cut.

Both models’ respective cases are made from satin-finished and polished stainless steel and feature dial side and caseback sapphire crystals with anti-reflective treatment. The Big Bang One Click Coal Blue Diamonds case measures 33 mm (diameter) * 10.55 mm (thickness) and Spirit of Big Bang Coal Blue Diamonds case measures 32 mm (diameter) * 11.10 mm (thickness). Both models have a water resistance of 100 metres and come with a coal blue lined rubber strap, fitted with a titanium deployant buckle clasp.

Both models are powered by HUB1120, an automatic movement that drives the central hours, minutes, seconds, and date (3 o’clock on Big Bang One Click Coal Blue Diamonds and 6 o’clock on Spirit of Big Bang Coal Blue Diamonds.) It comprises 169 parts and 18 jewels, beats at of 4 Hz or 28,800 vph and has a power reserve of (approximately) 40 hours. It features a Swiss silicon lever escapement.

Classic Fusion models in Sage Green

This range of three models are clothed in sage green, a colour that “brings together trends seen in both men’s and women’s fashion in three new models. The Classic Fusion collection was chosen to feature this unique sage colour. Wide open with an understated dial, it provides a generous backdrop that allows the colour to express itself fully.”

The Classic Fusion Titanium Sage Green Diamonds, Classic Fusion Titanium Sage Green and Classic Fusion Chronograph Titanium Sage Green feature a satin-finished sage green dial with a sunburst finish.

All three models feature a case made from satin-finished and polished titanium.

The Classic Fusion Titanium Sage Green Diamonds case measures 33 mm (diameter) * 8.4 mm (thickness). Its polished titanium bezel is set with 36 diamonds (0.8 carats). Dial side features a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment and a satin-finished titanium caseback. Water resistant up to 50 metres. The watch comes with a Sage green rubber with sage green fabric strap fitted with a stainless steel deployant buckle clasp. It is powered by HUB2912, a quartz movement that drives the central hours, minutes, seconds, and date (3 o’clock). It comprises 38 parts and 3 jewels.

The Classic Fusion Titanium Sage Green’s case measures 42 mm (diameter) * 10.4 mm (thickness). It features a satin-finished and polished titanium bezel. Dial side and caseback feature a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment. Water resistant up to 50 metres. The watch comes with a Sage green rubber with sage green fabric strap fitted with a stainless steel deployant buckle clasp. It is powered by HUB1110, an automatic movement that drives the central hours, minutes, seconds, and date (3 o’clock). It comprises 177 parts and 25 jewels, beats at of 4 Hz or 28,800 vph and has a power reserve of (approximately) 48 hours. It features a Swiss silicon lever escapement.

The Classic Fusion Chronograph Titanium Sage Green’s case measures 45 mm (diameter) * 13.05 mm (thickness). It features a satin-finished and polished titanium bezel. Dial side and caseback feature a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment. Water resistant up to 50 metres. The watch comes with a Sage green rubber with sage green fabric strap fitted with a stainless steel deployant buckle clasp. It is powered by HUB1143, an automatic chronograph movement that drives the central hours and minutes, small seconds at 3 o’clock, central chronograph seconds, 30-minute counter at 9 o’clock and date at 6 o’clock. It comprises 280 parts and 59 jewels, beats at of 4 Hz or 28,800 vph and has a power reserve of (approximately) 48 hours. It features a Swiss silicon lever escapement.

Spirit of Big Bang Year of the Horse Frosted Carbon

The Spirit of Big Bang Year of the Horse Frosted Carbon (pictured on the header image as well) is Hublot’s interpretation of a Métiers D’Art watch that honours a significant event in the Chinese calendar. It is a limited edition of 88 pieces.

“This creation embodies our drive to innovate beyond convention. With the Spirit of Big Bang Year of the Horse, we turn carbon and gold into sculpted art and symbolism into engineering precision. We master materials the way we master time, in a limitless way.” – Hublot CEO, Julien Tornare.

It features a polished black dial depicting a Tang dynasty artistry inspired dragon-horse. Skeletonised hour and minute hands.

“The dial combines hand laid carbon marquetry with 3N gold-plated brass appliqués forming a horse motif. Every carbon fragment is cut, aligned, and assembled by hand, demonstrating total control over one of the most demanding materials in modern watchmaking. The 3-dimensional gold lines, inspired by the embroidery of ancient Chinese ceremonial robes, give the horse a powerful presence.”

Case is made from black matte carbon featuring a black lacquer base and measures 42 mm (diameter) * 13.8 mm (thickness). Dial side and caseback feature a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment. Water resistant up to 100 metres. The watch comes with a black calfskin leather strap fitted with a black ceramic and black plated titanium deployant buckle clasp. It is powered by MHUB1710, an automatic movement that drives the central hours, minutes, and seconds. It comprises 166 parts and 27 jewels, beats at of 4 Hz or 28,800 vph and has a power reserve of (approximately) 50 hours. It features a Swiss silicon lever escapement.

Classic Fusion Chronograph UEFA Europa League Titanium Carbon

Hublot has supported football for two decades, “actively supporting various leagues, teams and players at a local, continental and global level.” The Classic Fusion Chronograph UEFA Europa League Titanium Carbon is the third watch “aimed at fans” of the UEFA Europa League, “one of the major men’s club competitions in European football.” The first limited edition was in 2017 and the second in 2023. This third series will be limited to 50 pieces.

It features a satin-finished black sunburst dial. The UEFA Europa League’s logo is printed on the small seconds counter at 3 o’clock. Its case is made from satin-finished and polished titanium and measures 42 mm (diameter) * 11.9 (mm) thickness.

The black and orange colours of the UEFA Europa League are depicted on the “technically sophisticated bezel developed by Hublot for this model: carbon fibre, ranging from black to anthracite gray, inlaid with orange fiberglass and punctuated by Hublot’s six iconic “H”-shaped titanium screws. The assembly of carbon fibre and fiberglass is always random, rendering each of the 50 pieces genuinely unique.”

Dial side and caseback feature a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment. The watch comes with a black lined rubber strap fitted with a stainless steel deployant buckle clasp.

It is powered by HUB1153, an automatic chronograph movement that drives the central hours and minutes, small seconds at 3 o’clock, central chronograph seconds, 30-minute counter at 9 o’clock and date at 6 o’clock. It comprises 269 parts and 39 jewels, beats at of 4 Hz or 28,800 vph and has a power reserve of (approximately) 48 hours. It features a Swiss silicon lever escapement.
