Emera launches a futuristic watch: the new Sentinel SV1

EMERA has unveiled the Sentinel SV1, a futuristic interpretation of a three-hand watch. SV is short for Super Veloce – the name of the collection. Patrick Freiburghaus – a designer and Cyrano Devanthey – a master watchmaker, founded EMERA in 2023. Both have worked for some of the biggest names in their respective fields.

“We develop everything in-house, from movement architecture to final assembly. Our partners are exclusively Swiss, rooted in the traditions of watchmaking. Every component, every gesture, every finish is driven by an obsession with mastery.

Our philosophy: to reinterpret centuries-old craftsmanship with a radical approach. To forge new paths. To create singular timepieces, built to last, passed down as mechanical artifacts. Our collections are intentionally confidential, produced in ultra-exclusive series, only available by subscription pre-order.”

Key Features

Functions

Central hours and minutes.

Off-centre small seconds at 7 o’clock.

Dial

Image: The Sentinel SV1 has a futuristic design not stuck in the past. Notice the lines, angles, contours, and finishes of the titanium and composite case – fusing extreme lightness with tactical resilience.” Notice the unique hour-markers. The dial side sapphire crystal is curved.

Open dial showcasing the MRA 02-1 movement.

Hands are coated with high-intensity Super-LumiNova. Applied floating hour-markers are made from high-density quartz composite and coated with high-intensity Super-LumiNova.

Movement

Image: The movement evokes science-fiction vibes. Notice the 20° inclined balance wheel. Featuring 3 arms, it is a variable inertia or free-sprung balance wheel with 3 manually adjustable weights. Notice the proprietary Grade 5 titanium screws. Patek Philippe’s calibre 26-330 is an example of a mechanical automatic movement with a free-sprung balance wheel that beats at 4 Hz. What Patek does at an industrial haute-horology scale, EMERA is doing at an artisanal scale.

Powered by MRA 02-1, an in-house automatic movement that drives the hours, minutes, and small seconds. 100% Swiss Made movement. Diameter: 32.50 mm. Thickness: 9 mm. Jewels: 19. Frequency: 28,800 vph or 4 Hz. Power reserve: Approximately 44 hours (+/- 10%).

Movement features

Bridges and mainplate are made from Grade 5 titanium. Variable inertia or free-sprung balance wheel. Nivarox balance spring. Incabloc shock protection. The open worked automatic winding rotor is made from tungsten and mounted on low-friction ceramic bearings.

Case

Image: I love the design of the open worked automatic winding rotor. The wrist-contoured rubber strap is “designed to withstand the harshest conditions.” The 2 “Press” buttons activate a proprietary system enabling the wearer to change the straps without the need for any tools.

3-part case. Caseband and caseback are made from high-density quartz composite. Bezel is made from Grade 5 titanium. Dimensions: 50.26 mm (length) * 50.50 mm (width) * 13.90 mm (thickness). Dial side and caseback feature a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. Water resistant up to 5 ATM or approximately 50 metres with nitrile O-ring seals.

Watch comes with a high density and a high resistance rubber strap with a Velcro fastening system fitted to a buckle made from high-density quartz-composite.

As a true lover of the world of luxury and brands, I always knew that one day I would offer my unique vision to the world. I wanted something exceptional, something that suited me perfectly.”Patrick Freiburghaus.

Our Thoughts

Image: An abundance of horological and design details – both dial side (left) and caseback side (right).

In an industry that loves to take inspiration from the past, the Sentinel SV1 defies convention with its bold and futuristic aesthetics – yet powered by a movement that incorporates the best of traditional and modern haute-horology codes. It won’t appeal to all – but will surely appeal to those who are confident in owning and wearing a watch that looks to the future.

EMERA is much more than a new independent watch brand. It is a canvas and a modern laboratory for Patrick Freiburghaus and Cyrano Devanthey to test their futuristic designs and horological ideas. We look forward to their next creation.
