There is a saying, ‘No one can take away your birthday,’ but luckily for Valentino Rossi, BMW has decided to celebrate him and offer two paint schemes he helped design. That’s one heck of a birthday present! Called the BMW M4 CS VR46, to celebrate his 46th birthday, and limited to 46 units, it will be offered in two colors, and each comes with a chance to meet Mr. Rossi.
The two paint colors come in the Sport and Style variants. The Sport is offered in Marina Bay Blue metallic and both sides of the car display an oversized “46”. The Style version comes in matt Frozen Tanzanite Blue metallic with the “46” in Frozen Marina Bay Blue metallic instead. Rossi’s favorite color scheme is enhanced with bright yellow on the BMW M kidney grille outline and one of the V spokes on the wheels, where the tire valve is placed, and brake calipers. The “46” on both cars is hand painted and on the carbon fiber roof, you can find a “VR46” denoting its special place in the lineup.
The yellow continues inside, which is mostly Night Blue color. M Carbon buckets come in Merino leather black/night blue color. The Sao Paulo Yellow of the Alcantara shoulder area, head restraints with the VR46 logo, and yellow contrast stitching on the steering wheel are minor changes for this special edition. Which, if you forget, there is a badge on the center console reminding you of the number of cars built “1/46” and identifying yours as a Sport or Style version.
Limited-run cars are usually stuck with an appearance package, but Mr. Rossi’s VR46 got a small bump in power too. Slightly more turbo pressure was added to bring the car to 550 horsepower and applied to the road via the 8-speed automatic and M xDrive all-wheel-drive. Zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) comes in a blistering 3.4 seconds.
