Top 5 Picks – September 2024

September was a busy month in the watch world with so many releases, making it even more difficult to select 5 out of the many from the month, but after much deliberation, here are my top 5 picks……

1) The first one on my list is the King Seiko KSK 6L collection that came out in 3 vibrant colours, a maroon-red version, a blue one and finally, a light purplish one. Each of these differently-coloured models has a dial with a unique Japanese pattern that also exhibits a slight gradation (If you look closely at it!). The watches in this collection are powered by the slimline movement – Calibre 6L35 with a power reserve of 45 hours and sized at an interesting 38.6mm. The only complication that ripples the tapestry-styled dial is the date window at 3 o’clock. The watches are priced at $3,300 (Approximately AED 12,121). For more details on the pieces, check the Seiko website: https://www.seikowatches.com/us-en/products/kingseiko/special/ksk/

2) Audemars Piguet (AP) is well-known to experiment with different materials and was responsible for introducing forged carbon into watchmaking (2007). In 2024, they have gone a step ahead by adding colours to the forged carbon material, and releasing the AP Carbon Royal Concept that comes with a forged carbon having blue glow-in-the-dark fibres.

This timepiece is powered by the Calibre 4407 and hosts a number of complications namely the split-seconds chronograph, GMT and a large date. The watch comes in a 43mm diameter, 17.5mm thickness case that houses an open-worked dial and is supplemented with 3 rubber straps. The watch is definitely for those that want a bit of luminescence in their nightlife. This piece is valued at $206,800 (Approximately AED 760,000). 3) There is something about an Ana-Digi watch that always piques my interest and knew the moment I saw the Omega Seamaster Regatta that it would be in my top 5 picks for September. Omega released this robust watch to celebrate the 37th America’s Cup and it comes with their new Quartz movement Calibre 5701.

This is an ultimate tool watch made from Grade 5 Titanium, has 300m water resistance, a moon phase indicator, chronograph, sailing logbook, accelerometer, 3 alarms, temperature gauge and the Regatta race function. This one is priced at $7,700 (Approximately AED 28,282). For more details, check Omega’s website: https://www.omegawatches.com/watch-omega-seamaster-regatta-chronograph-46-75-mm-21692467910001

4) Nothing gets more quirkier than this, the Desk Diver by Christopher Ward (CW) in collaboration with seconde/seconde (Also know as the Watch Remixer as per CW, but I agree 😉). The watch has a killer look with the black and yellow combo and this colour aesthetic adds to the overall fun aspect of the watch. The watch dial and bezel is designed using a pie-chart format that illustrates or rather divides your day up into things that matter in a 9-5 job (I am sure a lot of you agree with what’s on the watch 😊). This model comes as part of CW’s Aquitaine collection and hence resonates all the features of the collection – 41mm diameter, 200m water resistance, 12.45mm thickness and powered by the Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement. Priced between $1195 – $1295 (Approximately AED 4390 – AED 4760).

5) The final one on the list is a brand that created this beast of a watch (or rather watches) with the Navy SEALs in mind, and this is the Panerai Navy SEALs Collection. The collection consists of 4 pieces ranging from 44mm – 47mm in diameter and ranges from 3-hand models to a GMT model as well as a chronograph one. A variety of materials have been used for this collection ranging from stainless steel, Panerai’s in-house Carbotech and Grade 5 Titanium. All models have a similar design code with differences coming from the complication and materials used to manufacture the watch. The watches have a camouflage aesthetic with a degrade black to anthracite dial and paired with sand-coloured super luminova applied indices. The striking feature is the small seconds counter at 9 o’clock that represents a target. All models come with an in-house movement that provides a 3-day power reserve combined with 300m water resistance and a uni-directional rotating bezel. Prices range from $10,200 – $34,200 (Approximately AED 38,400 – AED 128,600). For more details, check Panerai’s website: https://www.panerai.com/ae/en/focus/navy-seals-collection.html

I also wanted to share my choice out of the top 5 or at least the one that I would buy. At first, I thought it might be the Desk Diver, but my mind kept going to the Regatta, so there it is…my ultimate choice from the Top 5 picks is the Omega Seamaster Regatta!
