The Urus S Arrives In India

With 666hp on tap, it can hit 100kmph from a standstill in 3.5 seconds.

Less than seven months after unveiling it for the first time to the world, Lamborghini has launched the Urus S in India. It replaces the standard Urus and will be sold alongside the Performante derivative. What about the price? The Lamborghini Urus S has a starting price of INR 4.18 crore.

Of course, we start with power and performance. The Urus S has the same source for propulsion as the Urus Performante. Under the bonnet is a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system. With 666hp/850Nm on tap, the Urus S can complete the sprints from nothing to 100kmph and 200kmph in 3.5 seconds and 12.5 seconds, respectively. As for the top speed, that’s 305kmph.

As you’d expect, the performance SUV has multiple drive modes, four to be precise – Strada, Sport, Corsa and Ego. Each one offers a different feel as the SUV’s brain tweaks the throttle response, adaptive air suspension and gearbox according to the mode selected. In addition, there are three off-road drive modes – Terra, Neve and Sabbia. Engaging any of those does something different to the torque delivery and the body balance of the Urus S.

Apart from additional oomph, the Urus S differs from the now-axed Urus with a few design tweaks inside and out. For instance, the newcomer has different front and rear bumpers, a restyled grille and new wheel designs, which range between 21 and 23 inches in diameter. Similarly, the SUV packs new colour and trim finishes inside the cabin. Furthermore, Lamborghini has ensured that the features list stays up to date by adding connected navigation and several in-car control services via the Unica application.

So, there you have it. The Urus S is an alternative to the Aston Martin DBX and the Bentley Bentayga. While the Lamborghini has an aggressive package, the two direct rivals offer a more balanced recipe. In other words, it all boils down to the buyer’s taste.
