The Gulf Historic Dubai GP Revival is one of the most iconic automotive events held in Dubai. The GP Revival was devised to commemorate and celebrate the iconic Grand Prix race cars of yesteryear at the best venue possible – a racetrack. 2023 would mark the third season for the Gulf Historic Dubai GP Revival, and a new category of race cars debuts this year – the Le Mans 60s category.
For most, the 60s racing scenario was dominated by Ferrari and Ford at LeMans. Hence, one can expect a host of Ford GT40s at the third edition of Gulf Historic Dubai GP Revival being conducted between 8th to 10th December 2023. Other examples of the GT40, such as pre-’66 GT and GTP, would be in attendance along with Touring Cars, pre-’61 Sports Cars and pre-66 cars up to two litres. This category’s winner would get judged at the end of a three-hour race.
The introduction of this new category comes as a result of a milestone partnership between GP Extreme and Octanium Experiences – organisers of the 1000 Miglia Experience UAE. The partnership will see both events coming together as participants of the 1000 Miglia Experience UAE can join the Revival race as well, provided they compete with an eligible vehicle. For the unaware, the 1000 Miglia Experience UAE, set to be conducted between the 3rd to 7th of December 2023, is the only foreign leg of the historical Mille Miglia race, also known as the most beautiful race in the world.
Like other editions of the Gulf Historic Dubai GP Revival, the third season would also get hosted at the Dubai Autodrome racetrack and feature four returning categories. The Formula One 70s category will witness F1 cars from 1970 to 1985 battle each other at the track. It would be followed by a demonstration run by iconic cars that raced between 1987 to 1994 under the Formula One 90s category. The remaining categories are called Le Mans 80s and Le Mans 00s, which would see a race between Group C, IMSA and GTP cars and a demonstration run by GT and Sports Prototype cars from 1994 to 2010, respectively.
Pierre-Brice Mena, Managing Director of GP Extreme, said: “With 2023 marking the centenary of the Le Mans 24 Hours, we thought that it was only right to celebrate one of its most thrilling and exciting eras. By adding the Le Mans 60s category to our line-up, we will be giving fans an opportunity to witness some truly unforgettable racing between iconic cars, transporting them back to the golden age of motorsport.
