Presented a little over four months ago, the ID.Aero concept foreshadowed a large electric sedan from Volkswagen that would compete directly with the unstoppable Tesla Model 3. At the 2023 CES in Las Vegas, the German brand is taking advantage of the opportunity to advance its plans and present the series production model named ID.7. Still camouflaged, the vehicle nevertheless reveals its lines and especially its interior.
The ID.7 will have the major role of simultaneously replacing two vehicles in the Volkswagen range. The Passat saloon will be retired first, followed by the Arteon in a second phase. Visually, the ID.7 takes up the codes of these two models with a hatchback format enhanced by dynamic and fluid lines favoring aerodynamics.
The headlights are particularly slim, with an LED strip linking the headlamps and incorporating IQ.Light technology. The side of the car features door handles taken from the ID.4 SUV, with skirts at the bottom. Finally, thickened taillights on the stern are worth noting. The very clean dashboard is largely inspired by that of the Model 3. The large 15-inch touchscreen is supported by a small instrument panel behind the steering wheel.
The Volkswagen ID.7 will be presented in the second half of 2023 and marketed in 2024. Based on the MEB platform, the electric saloon will have a maximum range of 700 km, which suggests that it will be equipped with new high-capacity batteries. Both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions will be available and are expected to offer between 200 and 500 PS. A sporty GTX model is not excluded.
