Audi Boosts RS 6 And RS 7 Up To 630hp

600hp and 800Nm of torque. That’s what the modern-day Audi RS 6 Avant and RS 7 Sportback pack, more than enough to keep the pulse rate in triple figures. But what about those who want a bit more? Enter the RS 6 Avant Performance and the RS 7 Sportback Performance. The ‘Performance’ tag pretty much confirms what they are about – lightness and more power.
For more oomph, Audi has fitted larger turbochargers (two of them, obviously!) to boost the 4.0-litre V8. As a result, the Performance versions offer 630hp/850Nm, an increase of 30hp/50Nm over the base derivatives. Moreover, the carmaker has tweaked the 8-speed dual-clutch transmission to offer faster shifting times. Both those changes play a big role in trimming down the standard sprint (0-100kmph) time from 3.4 seconds to 3.2 seconds.
Because the Performance versions come with Audi’s RS Dynamic Package as standard, the electronically-limited top speed is 280kmph. The package also ropes in all-wheel steering and the Quattro sport differential on the rear axle. One could get the top speed raised to 305kmph and inject RS ceramic brakes, which weigh 34kg less than steel ones, in the mix with the optional RS Dynamic Package Plus. The duo also feature a new self-locking central differential, which is lighter, more compact and, as per Audi, improves driving dynamics.
Both cars – the RS 6 Performance and the RS 7 Performance – come with 21-inch aluminium wheels and 273/35 profile tyres as standard. However, there’s an option to get 22-inch lightweight wheels, which reduce unsprung weight by 20kg when compared to the 22-inch aluminium rims on the base RS 6 Avant and RS 7 Sportback. Moreover, the lightweight wheels can be teamed with Continental Sport Contact 7 tyres, which improve grip over wet and dry surfaces while reducing understeering in fast corners. One could even settle for 22-inch aluminium wheels in burnished glossy black, matte grey, matte black or neodymium gold.
To make the Performance versions stand out, Audi has garnished them with bespoke touches inside-out. For instance, the ORVM caps, front spoiler, front side flaps, side sill inserts, roof rails, window trims and rear diffuser are finished in matte grey. Audi does have a matte carbon/black optics package as an option, in which the roof rails and the side windows are black. Also, the cars are available in sixteen colours, including metallic and matte Ascari Blue and matte Dew Silver for the first time.
Inside the cabin, the Performance derivatives come with blue accents on the steering wheel, floor mats, centre console and selector lever. Those who prefer the grey-red combo can still have it. The seat belts are in an ocean blue shade, but those can also be specced to don a different look. As for the cabin upholstery, it’s still mostly Alcantara and Dinamica microfibre, and the digital instrument cluster packs some new features. Options include RS design packages in three colours.
One could customise the RS 6 Avant Performance and the RS 7 Performance on Audi’s configurator. The base price? For both, that’s 135,000 euros. They go on sale on December 8, 2022.
