Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen wins the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

The race couldn't have gone better for the now two-time world champion

Max Verstappen has won the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, confirming that he is now the 2022 world champion.

It’s been a long old season, the longest in the sport’s history, in fact. But despite this, Max has dominated for most of the year, finishing first more times than he can probably remember.

Finishing second and third at the Abu Dhabi GP were Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez respectively – both driving the race of their lives. It was certainly a close one between the two of them because it was all for the second position in the championship – which was taken by Leclerc by around one and a half seconds.

This race also marked the final race for Sebastian Vettel, Daniel Ricciardo, Mick Schumacher, and Nicholas Latifi as none of them will be appearing on the grid next year.

Unfortunately for Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton retired for the first time this season due to mechanical failures – something the team hadn’t experienced to this extent across the season.

Now, we wait 105 days until the action kicks off again for the 2023 season of the sport. Will this be Mercedes’ year or will RedBull or even Ferrari dominate?
