Stefanos Tsitsipas will compete in the 14th edition of the Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi

The Greek will participate for the second time in this competition

The Mubadala World Tennis Championship will take place from 16-18 December 2022 and is now fully booked. World No. 3 Stefanos Tsitispas is the last of the six announced participants in the men’s draw, which also features three other top 10 players. On the women’s side, Ons Jabeur and Emma Raducanu will be in the spotlight.

On Tuesday 15 November, the event’s organisers announced the last of the six players. Stefanos Tsitsipas, 3rd in the ATP rankings, completes the card. He joins Carlos Alcaraz ( World No. 1), Casper Ruud (No. 4), Andrey Rublev (No. 7), Cameron Norrie (No. 14) and Frances Tiafoe (No. 19) for these few days of exhibition. For Tsitsipas, this is his second appearance at the Abu Dhabi tournament. The first time was in 2019. The Greek beat Rublev in the quarter and then Novak Djokovic in the semis to face Rafael Nadal in the final. A close match that “Tsitsi” lost in three sets (7-6, 5-7, 6-7). This final remains the longest in terms of games played (38).

At 24, the native of Athens already has a few honours. 11 career titles including two Masters 1000 (Monte Carlo 2021 and 2022) with one final (Roland Garros 2021) and several Grand Slam semis. After an elbow surgery at the end of 2021, Tsitsipas started his 2022 season rather well as he reached the semis at the Australian Open. Behind that, despite his two titles (Monaco, Majorca) and his record number of victories in a year (58 at the moment), the one-handed backhand specialist is proving to be rather irregular. His five lost finals on the ATP circuit attest to this. However, he has regained some confidence in recent weeks.

Jabeur vs Raducanu

For this 14th edition of the Mubadala World Tennis Championship, the women’s final pits the Tunisian world No. 2 Ons Jabeur against the British winner of the US Open 2021 Emma Raducanu. A beautiful opposition of style between two players with diametrically opposed recent trajectories. On one side, Jabeur. The native of Ksar Hellal has had the best season of her career in 2022. Two Grand Slam finals (Wimbledon, US Open), two titles (Madrid, Berlin) and the highest ranking of her career (2nd). On the other hand, Raducanu. After the beginning of her crazy epic in 2021 at Wimbledon and her New York title three months later at only 18 years old, the Londoner lost a lot. No title in 2022, premature eliminations in the majors and a heavy drop in the rankings, from 10th to 75th place.
