5 Car whose Casting was spot on for a Transformers Franchise

My Top 5 picks of Automobiles, featured in a Transformers movie franchise

With the release of a new transformer movie in sight and the whole push behind the Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.8, which is the disguise of an Autobot named Mirage, anyways the whole saga around the film and the car, got me thinking about the cars that were featured in the past Transformers films that stood out for me.

As a kid I used to get gaga over these films, I used to enjoy the fact that the whole story revolves around robots transforming into fancy cars, as opposed to other films whose stories heavily feature cars but the automobile usually takes a back seat.

Here are my Top 5 Cars From The Transformers Franchise

1. Ferrari 458 Italia (DINO)

Ferrari 458 Italia was first featured in Transformer’s third instalment of the franchise-The Dark Of The Moon, it was the disguise of the Autobot Named DINO, in true Ferrari fashion the Autobot was a red-coloured Ferrari 458 and spoke with an Italian accent.

The Ferrari 458 is arguably one of the most beautiful cars in the world, in my opinion, one of the finest from the Prancing Horse’s stable, Producing 560 horsepower from Ferrari’s last ever Naturally Aspirated 4.5 litre V8 that uses a Flat Plane crank which revs upto 9,000 rpm, orchestrating a sound that’s bound to get anyone’s heart racing.

Upon its Launch Ferrari 458 garnered over thirty international accolades such as “Car of the Year” and its 4.5 L Engine is still regarded as one of the best V8s, the very engine became a benchmark for the first-ever mid-engine corvette nearly a decade later.

2. Saleen S281 Mustang (Barricade)

The Saleen S281 Mustang was featured as Bumblebee’s arch-rival ‘Barricade’ which disguised itself as a cop car, It was pretty befitting to use the Mustang as a rival for the Camaro that was Bumblebee’s disguise. Saleen S281 looked properly menacing as it should for a Decepticon.

Saleen, a very well-known High-performance tuning Parts Company was commissioned to build the S281 Mustang and prepare it for its role in the film a fun fact Saleen was also commissioned to prepare The Chevrolet Camaro for the film.

Saleen S281 Mustang was a heavily Modified and tuned version of the regular Mustang that produces 360bhp from a 4.6L V8 motor.

3. GMC Topkick 4×4 Pickpup (Ironhide)

Autobot’s weapons specialist Ironhide and Optimus Prime’s Friend and sidekick disguised itself as a GMC Topkick 4X4 in black with a Duramax 6.6 Litre Diesel V8, which became the perfect suit for Ironhide’s imposing personality and the whole macho and dependable vibe it reflected on the screen.

According to the Vehicle Designer for the film Ironhide’s disguise was the least modified among all the automobiles used in the film. And the builders only very little just lifting the suspension by a few inches and replacing its sneaker with a 40-inch Nitto Mud Grappler.

4 Mercedes SLS AMG

A 300 SL Gullwing-inspired, silver Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, a nearly 200mph machine that transforms into a Decepticons Communication officer-Shockwave, is powered by an AMG V8 Motor that produces 570hp that transmits through the rear wheel onto the tarmac.

Mercedes SLS AMG is the first Mercedes- Benz model designed and built from scratch entirely by AMG, it won numerous design awards in 2010 and 2011, and its USP was its Gullwing doors that helped SLS Leave its mark on history.

5 Pontiac Solstice Club racer Concept

The coolest Autobot ‘Jazz ‘ enters the battlefield with a head as cool as a cucumber and a style quotient unmatched by any, Jazz is arguably my favourite character from the whole Transformers Saga be it a live-action film or an animated series

So, for an Autobot as cool as Jazz he’s choice of car for his disguise on Earth should match his energy and style, Probably a Lamborghini of some sort would fit the bill perfectly.

Wrong !, because Transformers makers were obliged to use a GM product they chose the Pontiac Solstice Club racer concept as Jazz’s vehicle of Choice.

I swear, for a long while I was certain it was a Porsche of some sort and you can’t blame me for it since Solstice resembled Porsche’s Boxter models to an extent, I was a kid back then, so, I hope Porsche fanatic will find it in their hearts to forgive me for my insolence.

The Pontiac Solstice Club race Concept was Built by GM Performance Division, notable feature is the removable hardtop that took inspiration from the Dodge Viper roadster.

Somewhat not so… Uncool car became one of my absolute favourites due to its affiliation with the coolest Autobot in existence.

So, What’s Your Favourite Car From the Transformers Franchise?
