To mark the 100th anniversary of the Rolls-Royce Phantom, British company Lunaz has unveiled a fully electric version of the classic 1961 Phantom V. This re-engineered model combines the timeless elegance of the original with modern electric performance and updated technology. Only 30 examples will be produced, each one hand-built at Lunaz’s headquarters in Silverstone, UK. Prices start at £500,000 (approximately AED 2.50 million).
The Phantom V is no ordinary classic. In the 1960s, it was a symbol of status and cultural significance. John Lennon famously owned a Phantom V, which he later painted in psychedelic colours—a bold statement that matched the experimental spirit of the time. The model also found favour among world leaders and rock royalty, often seen parked outside The Beatles’ recording sessions at Abbey Road Studios or transporting figures like Queen Elizabeth II and Elvis Presley. Lunaz is now offering a modern chapter for this legendary car, keeping its soul alive for a new generation of owners.
EV Tech Under The Skin
Beneath the Phantom’s stately silhouette is a modern electric heart. The new model is powered by a 120 kWh battery that delivers a range of up to 480 kilometres on a single charge. Lunaz has completely overhauled the car’s chassis, suspension, and steering systems to match the performance of its electric drivetrain. It may look like the car that once cruised the streets during the Swinging Sixties, but it now drives with the confidence and precision of a high-end electric vehicle.
Inside, the Phantom V retains its traditional craftsmanship but adds essential modern features. A fully integrated touchscreen infotainment system blends not-so-discreetly into the interior. Satellite navigation, climate control, heated seats, and a rear-seat entertainment system have been added.
Rear passengers are treated to individual screens behind the fold-down picnic tables alongside a hidden bar within the centre console. Every Phantom V is made to order, and each customer has the chance to create a completely personalised interior, right down to bespoke trims, finishes, and whisky bar setups.
Expanding Lunaz’s Electric Classic Portfolio
While the Phantom V is a centrepiece, Lunaz is also electrifying the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud, offering it in limousine, coupé, and drophead coupé body styles. Prices for these models begin at £350,000. The Silver Cloud was another staple of 1960s luxury, often seen in films of the era and used by notable figures like Frank Sinatra and Sophia Loren.
Beyond Rolls-Royce, Lunaz has electrified other British icons, including the Bentley Continental, classic Aston Martins, and Jaguar models like the XK120 and XK150. The company’s process involves full restoration and re-engineering of each car using its in-house developed electric powertrains.
In response to growing global demand for electric classics, Lunaz has announced plans to double its workforce at the Silverstone facility. This expansion is a clear sign that electric conversions are no longer niche. They are becoming part of mainstream automotive culture.
Redefining Modern Luxury
Lunaz’s work taps into a larger shift in what luxury means today. In the 1960s, owning a Rolls-Royce was the ultimate display of status. It was about presence, wealth, and exclusivity. But times have changed. In today’s world, luxury is also measured by responsibility, sustainability, and purpose.
Lunaz founder David Lorenz believes the future of luxury lies in blending the past with modern values. He says Lunaz is “meeting the demand for clean-air expressions of the most beautiful and luxurious cars in history.” This approach isn’t about discarding the old, but making it relevant again without compromising heritage.
A Rare & Responsible Revival
The Lunaz electric Phantom V is a carefully considered revival of a vehicle that once defined an era. It brings together the elegance of 1960s design with the quiet, emission-free driving expected today.
Whether it was pulling up outside the Savoy Hotel in London or featuring in the background of a James Bond premiere, the original Phantom V had a cultural presence that went beyond its mechanical value. Now, with Lunaz’s electric version, that legacy continues, just quieter and more sustainably.
