Yamaha XSR 155 Breaks Cover in India: Neo-Retro Design Meets Modern Tech

All-new Yamaha XSR 155 launched in India at Rs 1.5 lakh. Featuring a 155cc liquid-cooled engine with retro-modern styling

Yamaha has finally launched its highly anticipated XSR 155 motorcycle in India, priced at Rs 1.50 lakh, marking its entry into the entry-level neo-retro segment — combining vintage styling with modern performance.
The neo retro segment has been booming recently, and Yamaha fans have long been craving for their beloved brand to make its mark in the segment with its XSR 155. For years, Yamaha kept teasing its fanbase with the launch of the motorcycle. With its competition acquiring the market space, Yamaha had to finally give in to the temptation and launch the XSR 155 for the Indian market.
The Yamaha  XSR 155 is based on the Yamaha R15 and MT 15 platform, utilising the same tried and tested deltabox frame. The suspension setup includes upside-down front forks and a monocross rear suspension, which offers nimble and agile handling on the tarmac.
Braking duties are handled by a 282 mm disc at the front, while the rear brake uses a 220 mm disc with dual-channel ABS.
At the heart of the motorcycle is a 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine capable of producing 18.4 hp at 10,000 rpm and 14.1 Nm of torque at 7,500 rpm, paired with a 6-speed gearbox featuring an assist and slipper clutch. The engine utilises Yamaha’s Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) technology, delivering both low-end torque and high-end power effectively.
Despite sharing the same platform as the R15 and MT 15, the XSR 155 looks distinctly different from its siblings, with its tasteful retro aesthetics with a sprinkle of modern elements such as LED headlights and minimalistic bodywork, resembling the Cafe racer aesthetics of the models from yesteryear.
On the features front, the XSR 155 comes equipped with a digital LCD instrument cluster, traction control, and Yamaha’s Motorcycle Connect system, which enables smartphone connectivity that can be utilised for navigation and other features.
Yamaha offers its riders two different sets of optional accessory kits to customise their XSR 155: The Cafe Racer kit and Scrambler kit. This kit includes parts to transform the motorcycle’s styling and ergonomics to match distinct retro themes, such as Headlamp cowl (for Café Racer look), Café Racer seat with quilted design, Tank pads, Beavertail guards, Adjustable levers, Fly screen, License plate holders, Side covers and radiator guards and Bar-end mirrors.
The Yamaha XSR 155 comes with four exciting colour pallets for the riders to choose from —  Metallic Blue, Greyish Green Metallic, Vivid Red, and Metallic Silver. The Motorcycle is priced at Rs 1.5 lakh ex-showroom and will go up against the likes of TVS Ronin, Royal Enfield Hunter 350, and Honda Highness CB350 & CB350RS.
