The Sprint drama started immediately at Turn 1. Fernando Alonso, Nico Hülkenberg, Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris collided in the opening corner, forcing both McLaren drivers out of the race before completing a single lap. Alonso was the third retirement from the incident, while Hülkenberg dropped down the order after sustaining front wing damage.
The crash brought out the Safety Car, reshuffling the pack behind Verstappen. George Russell and Carlos Sainz emerged as his main challengers once racing resumed.
On Lap 8, Russell launched an ambitious move to take the lead, but Verstappen held firm to retain first place. Behind them, Lewis Hamilton overtook Charles Leclerc to climb to fourth.
Further down the order, Hülkenberg fought with Isack Hadjar despite his damaged front wing, while Gabriel Bortoleto battled Lance Stroll just ahead. In the midfield, rookie Kimi Antonelli attempted a move on Oliver Bearman on Lap 15, forcing the Haas driver off track — though Bearman managed to hold on to eighth place and the final points position at the time.
Two laps later, the race saw another major incident as Lance Stroll collided with Esteban Ocon, taking both drivers out of contention and triggering a second Safety Car period. With the field down to just 15 runners, the neutralisation closed up the gaps once again.
Bearman was later handed a 10-second penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage during his battle with Antonelli, dropping him to the bottom of the order and ending Haas’s hopes of scoring in their home race.
The race concluded under Safety Car conditions, with Verstappen leading Russell and Sainz to the flag. Hamilton and Leclerc rounded out the top five, while Alex Albon impressed with a sixth-place finish for Williams ahead of Yuki Tsunoda and rookie Kimi Antonelli, who secured the final Sprint point.
