In what seems like an Eid bonus, the UAE has announced a significant decrease in fuel prices for April 2025. This adjustment comes after a slight drop in March, following a hike in February.
The new per-litre rates are as follows:
-
Super 98: AED 2.57, down from AED 2.73 in March
-
Special 95: AED 2.46, reduced from AED 2.61
-
E-Plus 91: AED 2.38, a decrease from AED 2.54
-
Diesel: AED 2.63, down from AED 2.77
These reductions, ranging between AED 0.14 to AED 0.16 fils per litre, are significant compared to the minimal decrease in March. For instance, filling up the 180-litre fuel tanks of the Toyota Land Cruiser 79 Pickup will now be AED 28.8 less expensive compared to March 2025.
Choosing The Right Fuel For Your Car Or Motorcycle: Octane Levels Explained
Selecting the appropriate fuel is crucial for optimal vehicle performance — this is based on octane levels. An octane number is the rating given to a fuel for its ability to withstand higher compression levels without causing engine knocking. In the UAE, this is denoted by the number placed as a suffix in the fuel’s name:
Not interested in nerd talk? Let’s keep it simple: a high-compression engine requires fuel with a higher octane rating.
-
Super 98: The highest octane petrol available at fuel stations across the UAE. If you own a supercar or sports car, this is the fuel to pick. Modern 600cc to 1,000cc motorcycles would thrive on Super 98.
-
Special 95: Suitable for most standard vehicles, offering a balance between performance and cost. This is the fuel of choice for most modern turbo-petrol engines and lower-capacity performance motorcycles.
-
E-Plus 91: Best for cars and bikes with minimal performance requirements, focusing on fuel economy. The perfect fuel for your daily drive or ride, in most cases.
-
Diesel: Although low in sheer numbers, diesel-powered pickup trucks & SUVs do exist in the UAE. Standard-issue diesel is available across most petrol pumps in the Emirates.
Still confused about what fuel is best for your vehicle? Your car or motorcycle’s user manual and/or fuel filler lid will contain manufacturer recommendations on the best fuel type.
