Terraglide: A lounge chair with wheels powered by an electric motor

A funky-looking trike bike that claims to replace the existing mode for daily commute

Have you heard about a trike bike powered by an electric motor, called terra glide? Me neither, that is until today – when I discovered this peculiar-looking vehicle on the internet which piqued my interest and decided with everyone.

It’s a recumbent trike – called terraglide, which you might’ve never heard of – built by a group of environmentally cautious tech-savvy engineers to replace traditional fossil-fueled options for the intra-urban commutes.

Now, I’ve been around the internet, and there’s very little information to be found on the Terra Glide – such as the output of the e-motor or the battery capacity or its performance figures, if there’s any.

But, whatever little information is on a website called AJprotech, which claims to be a tech company that serves a varied type of clientele and claims to partner up with Terraglide to bring this trike on the roads?

Here’s what I found

Terraglide gets some sort of electric motor that can be regenerated through peddling – by the paddles that are placed behind the front wheels – but when the battery is charged up, it can move this trike on its authority via a fly-by-wire throttle stick placed on the left armrest.

On the right, you get a vertical rectangular console that feeds you the necessary information about your ride and a few centimetres from the console, you get another joystick that uses steer-by-wire technology for navigating this three-wheeled EV.

I tried finding more information on the suspension setup or anything on the braking system, even something related to the tyre size, etc., but my search availed no reward; someone tells me Terraglide are more than welcome to answer these questions if you show signs of interest in ever owning one.

If you ever decide to get in one of these, be sure that you’ll attract some attention – with the way it looks and the way you’ll look at it, a recumbent bucket seat built with some composite materials will surely attract some jealous looks at your leisurely commute.

You get a frunk between the front two wheels that act as a storage compartment and a small storage compartment on the right armrest to store a smartphone or something in that vicinity; on the design, you are the judge of it from the picture.

After searching a few articles from reputable outlets, I came to find out that Terraglide has been around for a long time, and its development started as early as 2013. Its first-ever prototype was presented in the year 2017, and by 2021, they were on its way to selling its 1000th Trike bike.

AJprotech is a company based in Los Angeles, CA, and that’s probably where they made their initial sales and why this EV has been quite hidden from the world or at least from uninitiated like me.
