SpaceOne unveils the new bold and futuristic WorldTimer

SpaceOne – a French watch brand founded in 2023 – has unveiled the WorldTimer, a bold and futuristic watch with an alternative time display and a world time function.

It is the brainchild of three watch industry personalities.

Guillaume Laidet: A dynamic watch industry entrepreneur. He is the CEO of SpaceOne and Nivada Grenchen, and overseas collections at Vulcain (please read here, here, and here.)

Théo Auffret: A Paris based independent watchmaker and an F.P. Journe Competition prize winner. His creations include the Tourbillon à Paris and Grand Sport Tourbillon —both pre-selected by the GPHG. He is responsible for the WorldTimer’s concept.

Olivier Gamiette – He is a creative mind renowned “for his fluid, futuristic lines, and daring displays.” He authored “Soon – Timepiece Phenomena,” a 2015 book “showcasing dozens of visionary watch designs.”  He is responsible for the WorldTimer’s design.

Key Features

Functions and Operation

Hours – indicated by the 12-hour disc at 6 o’clock.

Minutes – indicated by the disc at 3 o’clock.

Seconds – indicated by the central disc (adjacent to the minutes disc) at 3 o’clock.

World time function – indicated by two coaxial discs at 9 o’clock, one for 24-hour time, and one for corresponding cities.

All functions via the three-position crown at 3 o’clock.

First position – manual winding.

Second position – quick city disc setting. (Specially engineered.)

Third position – sets both the 12-hour and 24-hour discs.

Dial

No dial as such. The 12-hours display, minutes and seconds display, and 24-hours and cities display are the “dials” of the WorldTimer.

Case

Image: WorldTimer Black with its grade 5 titanium case featuring a polished, brushed, and sandblasted finish. The Blue and Titanium versions feature the same finish. Incredible attention to detail.

Case is made from grade 5 titanium with a polished / brushed / sandblasted finish.

Three versions: Titanium, Blue, and Black.

Length: 52.70 mm. Thickness: 15.88 mm (incudes the 24-hour / city display dome). Width (lug-to-lug): 41.90 mm.

The three displays feature domed sapphire crystals. The engraved triangles at 6 and 3 o’clock, and engraved brand’s logo at 12 o’clock feature BGW9 Super-LumiNova.

Water resistant up to 3 ATM or approximately 30 metres.

Straps are fitted to a buckle made from grade 5 titanium.

Movement

Image: WorldTimer Blue. The WorldTimer complication is developed in-house in France.

Powered by Soprod P024, an automatic movement integrated with the brand’s in-house WorldTimer complication. According to online sources, the Soprod P024 is based on the ETA2824-2, features 25 jewels and a stop seconds function.

Frequency: 28,800 vph or 4 Hz. Power reserve: 38 hours.

The Swiss Made Soprod P024’s integration with the French developed WorldTimer complication is done in Paris.

Our Thoughts

I was fortunate to handle the WorldTimer in Geneva during Watches and Wonders week in early April. SpaceTime exhibited at the Hotel Beau Rivage. It was under embargo at the time.

Left: Jumping Hour Brown Steel. Right: Tellurium.

The WorldTimer, along with the brand’s prior two watches – Jumping Hour (2023) and Tellurium (2024) – prove that desirable and relatively affordable watches can possess the same level of creativity and a high degree of engineering (if not the haute-horology) such as watches made by De Bethune and MB&F, known for their equally audacious watches.

Image: WorldTimer Titanium is my personal favourite. Though I would be happy with the Blue and Black as well.

Bold. Cool. Fun. Futuristic. Incredible. These come to mind when writing about the WorldTimer. It is a watch that would bring a smile to my face each time I set the time and city and wear it. The WorldTimer is a guaranteed conversation starter – at watch GTGs and daily situations. I look forward to SpaceOne’s next creation.
