This classic vintage-inspired GPHG award winning timepiece gets a new denim blue sector dial.

RAYMOND WEIL has recently introduced the Millesime Automatic Small Seconds Denim Blue. This captivating new dial version is an addition to the Millesime Automatic Small Seconds family. The debut model, featuring a silver colour sector dial, won the Grand Prix D’ Horlogerie Genèva (GPHG) Challenge Watch Prize in 2023.

“RAYMOND WEIL pays homage to the rich heritage and traditions of horology while celebrating the simplicity of refined design. Millesime timepiece offer a period charm combined with present-day practicality.”

The Millesime Automatic Small Seconds Denim Blue’s dial features include:

– “RAYMOND WEIL Geneva” is prominently displayed on the top section of inner dial.

– Surrounding the inner dial is the hour track, featuring a smooth finish. It features 12 baton-hour markers, with 2-hour markers for 12 o’clock.

– The hour track is surrounded by a snailed minute track, graduated in increments of 5 minutes.

– The small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock occupies a portion of the inner dial and hour track. It is divided into 6 sections, each graduated in increments of 10 seconds. “Automatic” is displayed on the subdial. The subdial’s outer edge is subtly recessed into the dial.

– Its height is 4.6 mm.

– It has a power reserve of 41 hours.

– The RW4251 is based on a Sellita calibre – most likely a modified version of SW260-1 – as per online sources. The SW260-1 beats at a frequency of 28,800 vph or 4 Hz, has 31 jewels, and features both an Incabloc shock-protection and hacking seconds.

Our Thoughts

The Millesime Automatic Small Seconds Denim Blue ticks several boxes.

– A well-executed interpretation of a classic three-hander sector dial timepiece. Classic three-hander timepieces are often the hardest to execute, and RAYMOND WEIL has done an impressive job with its dial and case design.

– The absence of a date window is another advantage. While a date window has a practical and commercial justification, they often look out of place on an otherwise perfect dial.

– It is powered by a proven automatic movement, easily serviceable by a competent watchmaker worldwide.

– Its classic vintage inspired design and accessible price point will tempt first time customers, beginner collectors, and experienced collectors.

– For those who are not collectors, and need a timepiece that is both attractive, versatile, and dependable, and do not desire to spend a large amount, the Millesime Automatic Small Seconds Denim Blue (and the other dial versions) is an ideal timepiece.

– I personally love classic three-hander timepieces, and I find the Millesime Automatic Small Seconds Denim Blue tempting.

– We look forward to doing a firsthand review.
