For the fifth consecutive year, the Porsche Heritage & Museum team is participating in the Icons of Porsche in Dubai, bringing three rare cars that represent the company’s rich history and innovative spirit.
The journey begins with the 911 GT1 Strassner version, a unique blend of racing and road cars. They created this model to meet the demands of endurance racing, making it one of Porsche’s rarest and most intriguing vehicles. The legendary 911 and 962 models inspire its design, embodying Porsche’s expertise in combining sporty performance with aesthetic excellence.
The second car, the Porsche 959, made history by winning the 1986 Paris-Dakar Rally, one of the world’s most challenging off-road races. This legendary model has travelled more than 14,000 kilometres across deserts, demonstrating Porsche’s unique ability to challenge and to adventure. Since then, the 959 has become a symbol of Porsche’s toughness and advanced technology in the harshest conditions.
The collection is completed by the 917/30 Spyder in Valiant design, one of the last 917 racing cars produced. Built in 1972 with a longer wheelbase, it achieved its first victory at Hockenheim under the leadership of Vic Elford. It was also famous in IMSA racing, where driver Mark Donohue set an astonishing 355.8 km/h (220 mph) record at Talladega.
The 2025 Icons of Porsche will take place on November 22 and 23 at the Dubai Design District, bringing together car enthusiasts from around the world to celebrate creativity and excellence. The event includes classic and modern car displays, art installations, music and culture, interactive experiences, and food from some of Dubai’s most famous restaurants.
Since its inception, the Icons of Porsche has become a well-established annual event that combines art, engineering, heritage, and culture, reinforcing Dubai’s position as a global hub for premium automotive and distinctive events. It’s a celebration that goes beyond a car show, but rather an experience that unites people around a shared passion and human creativity.
Through this festival, Porsche demonstrates its commitment to connecting generations —from legendary cars like the 917 and 959 to modern electric models like the Taycan —through a continuous dialogue between history and the future. As the company’s philosophy states, Porsche’s future begins with its history.
