Our Thoughts

The Gondolo Serata « Zebra » showcases Patek Philippe’s artistic and jewellery expertise. It is a reminder that the brand is much more than its complications, grand complications, and versatile “sports” watches (Nautilus, Aquanaut, and Cubitus collections). The Zebra motif is inspired by the Reference 5738/50G-023 Golden Ellipse. This watch featured a cloisonné enamel dial with a zebra motif and was part of the brand’s 2022 Rare Handicrafts collection.
I wish the brand used a mechanical movement, ideally the manually-wound calibre 215 PS (but without the “Petite” or small seconds). First introduced in 1974, calibre 215 PS has been around for decades, and it is likely the brand is planning to retire it. I am sure there is a reason why they used quartz calibre E15 – which features the same movement finishing as the brand’s mechanical calibres.
The Gondolo Serata « Zebra » will appeal to collectors who appreciate phenomenal dial and case artistry, and gem setting expertise – aspects where Patek Philippe has few equals.
