Parmigiani Fleurier introduces a new two-tone Tonda

Parmigiani Fleurier has unveiled the Tonda PF Micro-Rotor Stainless Steel & Rose Gold. Its deep mineral ‘Stone Blue’ dial is housed in a two-tone stainless steel and rose gold case and integrated bracelet.

Dial

Image: Just the essentials – hours and minutes. The skeletonised hands evokes lightness, whereas the brand’s logo at 12 o’clock offers a bit of detail and balance on an otherwise sparse dial. Notice the subtle minute scale on the outer dial. I love the two-tone case and bracelet. The 18K rose gold elements contrasts well with the blue dial.

Stone Blue dial with a Grain d’Orge hand-guilloché finish. Skeletonised delta-shaped hour and minute hands and hand applied hour-markers are made from 18K rose gold.

Movement

Image: The 18K rose gold micro-rotor features a *Grain d’Orge* guilloché finish. To my eyes the balance wheel appears free-sprung. The luxurious beat rate of 21,600 vph suits the character of the watch.

Powered by PF703, a manufacture automatic calibre. It drives the hours and minutes. Diameter: 30.60 mm. Thickness: 3.07 mm. Parts: 166. Jewels: 29. Frequency: 21,600 vph or 3 Hz. Power reserve: 48 hours. Movement finishing includes Côtes de Genève, Perlage, and bevelled bridges.

Case and Bracelet

Case is made from 18K rose gold and stainless steel – polished and satin finished. It features a knurled bezel. Diameter: 40 mm. Thickness: 7.80 mm. Screwed-in crown at 3 o’clock has a diameter of 4.30 mm. Dial features an ARunic anti-reflective sapphire crystal. Caseback features a sapphire crystal. Water resistant up to 100 metres.

Bracelet is made from 18K rose gold and stainless steel – polished and satin finished. It is fitted with a folding clasp made from stainless steel.

The Stainless Steel and Rose Gold version is a beautiful interpretation of a time only watch with an exquisitely crafted dial, case, bracelet, and an haute-horology movement. It can stand shoulder to shoulder with equivalent watches from A. Lange & Söhne, Audemars Piguet, Patek Philippe, and Vacheron Constantin. It possesses the same attributes I used when describing the limited-edition Platinum Stone Blue version – discreet, pure class, and understated. Yet it offers something more – accessibility. Its price of CHF 28K is literally a bargain for a watch at this level and should be a signal to other haute-horology brands to keep this genre of watchmaking exciting.
