Pratt & Whitney, an RTX firm that yesterday unveiled a durability enhancement solution for the engines that power the Airbus A320neo family aircraft, has bagged a new engine deal with one of its recent customers. Denver-based Frontier Airlines has ordered Pratt & Whitney GTF engines to power 91 Airbus A321neo jets. The first examples are scheduled for delivery in the last quarter of 2026. In addition, the Connecticut-based aircraft engine manufacturer will provide the airline with engine maintenance through a long-term EngineWise Comprehensive service plan.
Frontier Airlines, which first became a Pratt & Whitney customer four years ago, has the USA’s largest and youngest A320neo family fleet. The latest deal between the two equates to a total commitment to 235 GTF-powered A320neo family jets, including those already delivered.
Pratt & Whitney’s GTF Advantage engine promises higher take-off thrust capability, improved fuel efficiency, and enhanced durability. It is the next evolutionary stage for the GTF engine family and will propel Frontier Airlines’ A321neo aircraft. Pratt & Whitney will upgrade its manufacturing plant and shift to GTF Advantage production in the next few years.
