Oris celebrates Chinese New Year with a new watch

The Year of the Horse Limited Edition combines a deep red dial with a business calendar complication and powered by an impressive in-house movement.

Oris has introduced the Year of the Horse Limited Edition. It marks the Chinese Year of the Fire Horse, which begins on 17 February 2026.

“Those born in the Year of the Fire Horse are thought to exude enthusiasm, confidence and a strong drive to succeed, making the new year a season of vibrant activity and bold endeavours.”

Belonging to the brand’s Artelier collection, it is limited to 88 numbered pieces, a number that symbolises “double luck, double prosperity in Chinese.”

Key Features

Functions and Operations

Image: In some professions (for example logistics and supply chain management), knowing the exact week is crucial. It is brilliant how the week and month are placed adjacent to each other and indicated by the same central hand. Notice the two horse motifs on the outer periphery of the “non-linear” power reserve subdial. The galloping horse indicates the point where the watch is fully wound; and the sitting horse when the power reserve has depleted.

Central hours and minutes. Small seconds subdial at 9 o’clock. Day of the week aperture at 12 o’clock. Date aperture at 9 o’clock. Central hand indicating the week and month. Power reserve indicator subdial at 3 o’clock. Crown at 3 o’clock for winding, time-setting, and adjusting all the calendar functions.

Dial

Image: The colour of both the day of the week and date wheels match the border of the small seconds and power reserve subdials – an aesthetically pleasing and thoughtful design touch. I love the “fiery hues” of both the subdials. The golden, white, and pink accents contrast well with the deep red dial. The round markers above the baton shaped hour-markers provides a bit of balance; where there might have been a bit of empty or negative space.

Deep red dial. Hour-markers – both Arabic numerals and baton shaped indices – are applied. Hour and minute hands are coated with Super-LumiNova.

Movement

Image: Calibre 113 is impressive. It is one of the brand’s “boldest movements.” The large barrel at 12 o’clock – though necessary to provide the 10 days power reserve – invariably makes the balance wheel at 6 o’clock look a tad small. I love how the movement fills the case.

Powered by Oris Calibre 113, a hand-wound “high-concept” in-house movement. It drives the hours, minutes, seconds, calendar functions, power reserve indicator, and stop-seconds function. Diameter: 34 mm or 15 lignes. Jewels: 37. Frequency: 21,600 vph or 3 Hz. Power reserve: 240 hours or 10 days.

Case

Multi-piece case is made from stainless steel. Diameter: 43 mm. Thickness: 13.10 mm. Lug width: 22 mm. Lug-to-lug distance: 50 mm. Dial side features a sapphire crystal, domed on both sides with anti-reflective coating on the inside. Caseback features a sapphire crystal. Water resistant up to 5 bar or 50 metres. The watch comes with a dark brown cordovan leather (horse hide) strap fitted to a stainless steel folding buckle.

Our Thoughts

Oris is renowned for making high quality and accessible watches for a broader segment of watch collectors. The new ProPilot Desert Edition is an example.

Image: The “rich brown tones” of the cordovan leather strap contrast well with the dial. Its price of CHF 6,650 is a bargain for the beautiful dial execution and impressive movement. A conversation starter at watch GTGs and a future collectable for sure.

The Year of the Horse Limited Edition is executed well. Its deep red dial does justice to the various information presented on the dial, as it makes it look less cluttered. Calibre 113 is impressive. Not only does it beat at a slow beat rate of 3 Hz – meaning harder to regulate than a 4 Hz movement – it offers a 10-day power reserve! It allows the brand to flex its horological muscles – not something for which it is typically known.

The Year of the Horse Limited Edition will appeal to collectors seeking a rare and unique watch with a cultural significance, yet one with a global appeal.
