Mini Unwraps The New Cooper Convertible

It features a revised design and a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, making either 161 or 201 horsepower.

Nowadays, convertibles are struggling, especially the very small ones. So, if you want to drive an open-top car in 2024, you have to spend a lot, or you can spend a little less than a lot and get a convertible Mini.

But spending that “little less than a lot” on a Mini Cooper Convertible will get you a “little more than an open-air driving experience,” as it will also get you an engaging car with a special character.

Mini decided to keep it going for 2025 with the facelift, featuring LED headlights containing three different light signatures that come as standard and a “welcome and goodbye” animation before and after the journey that you can change to suit your mood.

The fabric soft top opens fully within 18 seconds of operation and can be retracted in two ways: either like a sunroof or fully retracted. The window bars and side windows are also lowered to provide a complete open-air experience. Reversing the process only takes 15 seconds. An integrated rollover protection system behind the rear seat is activated as soon as the central safety electronics detect the risk of a rollover.

The interior is dominated by simplicity and, of course, the familiar 9.45-inch-diameter OLED display. The newly designed toggle switch strip is also on board. Behind the steering wheel, the head-up display projects relevant information into the driver’s field of vision, allowing a clear view of the front.

The sporty-style convertible will have two versions of an advanced two-litre petrol four-cylinder engine. The Mini Cooper C variant makes 163 hp and a maximum torque of 250 Nm, enabling the convertible to reach 100 kph per hour from a standstill in 8.2 seconds.

The Mini Cooper S makes 204 hp and 300 Nm of torque, propelling it to 100 kph in 6.9 seconds and reaching a top speed of 237 km/h. In addition to these two variants, the performance-oriented JCW variant focuses on sportiness and driving pleasure.
