MIDO introduces the new Ocean Star Decompression Timer 1961

It reinterprets the aesthetic codes of diving timepieces from the 1960’s. It is a limited edition of 1961 pieces.

MIDO has introduced the Ocean Star Decompression Timer 1961. It is a tribute to the original 1961 model. “In subtle reference to the past, the Ocean Star Tribute Swiss watch reinterprets the aesthetic codes of the diving models from the 1960’s.”  It is a limited-edition of 1961 pieces.

Dial

The MIDO Ocean Star Decompression Timer 1961’s dial features include:

– It features a black dial featuring the vintage inspired decompression scale.

– The inner dial is black. “MIDO” is applied whereas “Automatic” and Arabic numerals “3”, “6”, “9” and “12” are printed.

– Its hour and minute hand, positioned on the inner dial, are coated with luminescent material.

– Moving outward from the inner dial are the four decompression scales, in a sequence of yellow, green, pink, and blue.

– The 12 rectangular hour-markers, applied on the black outer dial, are coated with luminescent material.

– A minute scale encircles the outer dial, graduated in increments of 5 minutes each.

– Its case is made of stainless steel coated with black PVD, providing it with a glossy black appearance.

– Its black bezel features a 60-minute scale.

– Its case diameter is 40.50 mm.

– Its lug width is 21 mm.

– On its dial side it features a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating.

– It’s closed caseback features the Ocean Star engraving. Around it is typical timepiece information.

– It has a screw-down crown, protected by a crown guard.

– It is water resistant up to 20 bar / 200 metres / 656 feet.

– It comes with a Milanese mesh bracelet, made of stainless steel, and coated with black PVD. It has a sliding clasp, engraved with the MIDO logo.

Our Thoughts

The MIDO Ocean Star Decompression Timer 1961 is a well-executed modern interpretation of a vintage timepiece from 1961. It packs an abundance of details, which include its vintage inspired dial and case, sapphire crystal, engraving on caseback, movement features, and two additional straps, the latter for added versatility. All this at a price less than CHF 2K! 

The MIDO Ocean Star Decompression Timer 1961 proves that timepieces do not have to be expensive to be interesting and put a smile on one’s face. A perfect timepiece for a collector who loves diver timepieces. And a welcome addition in almost any collection.
