Mercedes-AMG CONCEPT AMG GT XX Completes A Whole Journey In Less than 8 Days

CONCEPT AMG GT XX travelled an unprecedented 5,479 kilometres in just 24 hours –1,500 kilometres more than the previous record for an electric vehicle – and completed the full 40,075-kilometre journey, equivalent to the circumference of the Earth at the equator, in just 7 days, 13 hours, 24 minutes, and 7 seconds. This “Around the World in Eight Days” challenge was designed to demonstrate the capabilities and efficiency of AMG’s upcoming electric performance platform, AMG.EA.

The CONCEPT AMG GT XX features a revolutionary drivetrain consisting of three axial-flux motors and a high-performance, liquid-cooled battery pack. The motors generate approximately 1,360 hp. Two oil-cooled motors drive the rear axle, while a third front motor is activated as needed to enhance performance or traction.

The battery was developed in Affalterbach and inspired by Formula 1 racing. The 800-volt electrical system enables ultra-fast charging at over 850 kW—far exceeding the current public infrastructure—enabling a range of 400 kilometres (WLTP) to be recovered in just five minutes. Intelligent energy and thermal management systems maintain optimal powertrain performance throughout extended periods of high-speed driving.

The benchmark testing of the CONCEPT AMG GT XX took place at the legendary Nardo test track in Italy, where two vehicles ran in parallel to verify performance and reliability. Both cars maintained average speeds of over 300 kmph and together completed more than 3,000 laps in ambient temperatures exceeding 35°C.

The entire process was a logistical and team effort, involving experienced racing drivers, pit crews, safety teams, remote engineers in Affalterbach, and technical partners, including Michelin and Albitronic. This event recalls Mercedes-Benz’s long history of benchmark testing at Nardò, dating back to the C111 programme, but this time with electric propulsion at the forefront.

This achievement demonstrates that Mercedes-AMG is not only prepared for the future of electric vehicles but is actively shaping it. By transferring advanced technologies from Formula 1 to production-ready systems, AMG aims to deliver high-performance electric vehicles without compromise. The AMG GT XX concept is not just a prototype; it is a powerful expression of the future of high-performance driving in the era of electric vehicles.
