“A year after introducing our Art Deco-inspired capsule collection with The Horophile, we’re excited to unveil the fourth edition of La Petite Seconde Metropolis. This time featuring a sleek green dial that looks to the future rather than the past.”

Key Features

Functions

The Louis Erard X The Horophile La Petite Seconde Metropolis Green’s functions include:

– Central hours and minutes.

– Small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock.

Dial

The Louis Erard X The Horophile La Petite Seconde Metropolis Green’s dial features include:

– It has a sleek green dial.

– It features a gadrooned inner dial.

– Its small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock and outer dial features a satin-finish.

– The silver numerals are engraved on the outer dial.

– Both the silver double border on the edge of the small seconds subdial, as well as on both sides of the outer dial appear engraved on the dial.

“The dial’s green colour takes on a warm shade, shifting with the light as its metallic base adds texture and contrast. The silver Empire hands and powdery silver hour numerals on the dial recall the steel frames of today’s most impressive buildings towering over a green landscape, as if blending in with them harmoniously.”

– Its silver hour, minute and small second hand are polished, and rhodium plated. The hour and minute hands are skeletonized and shaped like New York City’s Empire State Building.

“One of the Metropolis’s signature features is the “Empire” baton hands, inspired by the most iconic of Art Deco skyscrapers that is synonymous with modernity: the Empire State Building. Here again, maniacal attention has been paid to detail, to the proportions, floor by floor, from the foundations to the spire, and to the skeletonisation at the centre. The end result is a small, mobile skyline on a pure, logo-free disc.”

Case and Strap

The Louis Erard X The Horophile La Petite Seconde Metropolis Green’s case and strap features include:

– Its case is made of stainless steel.

– Its case diameter is 39 mm.

– On its dial side, it features a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides.

– On its caseback, it features a sapphire crystal.

– It is water resistant up to 5 bar / 50 metres / 165 feet.

– It comes with a light brown colour calf leather strap, featuring “tone-on-tone stitching” and “black grained calf leather lining.”  It features “functional catch spring bars,” which enables the strap to be changed easily.

– The strap features a pin buckle.

Movement

The Louis Erard X The Horophile La Petite Seconde Metropolis Green’s movement features include:

– It is powered by Sellita SW261-1, a Swiss Made mechanical automatic movement.

– It powers the hours, minutes, and small seconds.

– According to online sources, this movement has 31 jewels, beats at a frequency of 28,800 vph or 4 Hz and features hacking or stop-seconds for accurate time setting. It is designed with a date function, though Louis Erard and The Horophile have chosen not to use it in the La Petite Seconde Metropolis models.

– It has a power reserve of approximately 38 hours.

Our Thoughts

I have mentioned before that classic two and three hander timepieces are often the hardest to get right. Based on images and supporting information, the collaborative timepiece – Louis Erard X The Horophile La Petite Seconde Metropolis Green is very well executed. The dial has an abundance of details, and the case size is just right at 39 mm, a sort of sweet spot acceptable to those both with smaller and larger wrists. Its Sellita SW261-1 is robust and dependable, and easily serviceable by competent watchmakers worldwide. I just wish that they opted for a closed caseback with an engraving, perhaps of the Empire State Building and text relevant to the story of this timepiece. Nonetheless, a great-looking timepiece, affordable, and one surely to put a smile on its wearer’s face.
