Korean Air Flaunts New Boeing 787-10 With ‘Prestige Class’

The new aircraft can ferry up to 15 per cent extra passengers compared to a 787-9.

A new Boeing aircraft recently joined Korean Air’s fleet. The twin-engined widebody in question is the largest member of the 787 Dreamliner family – the 787-10. Compared to the 787-9, the 787-10 features a nearly 5-metre longer fuselage. That allows the latter to ferry 15 per cent more passengers and cargo.

The Boeing 787-10 is powered by General Electric’s GEnx-1B74/75 engines, featuring chevron nozzles that help bring down the decibel levels from the exhaust. The 787-10 Dreamliner offers a maximum range of 11,175km, about 1,400km less than its slightly shorter sibling. The aircraft also features components designed by Korean Air’s Aerospace Division, including the aft body, raked wing tips, and flap support fairings.

Korean Air’s 787-10 comprises 325 seats. Of them, 289 are in the Economy section, and the remaining 36 are part of the airline’s new offering – ‘Prestige Class’. Those in this new section will get seats that recline to 180 degrees. The seat length, pitch and width are measured at 78 inches, 46 inches, and 21 inches, respectively. Each passenger will also have a personal storage compartment, a wireless mobile charger, dual 220V/110V power outlets, two USB-C ports and a 4K 24-inch monitor with Bluetooth connectivity.

Seats in the Economy section are laid out in a 3-3-3 configuration. Each one, draped in vibrant woven patterns, offers a recline of up to 120 degrees, an adjustable headrest and a 13-inch monitor. The seat pitch is 32 inches, while the width stretches 17.2 inches. The carrier will also offer inflight Wi-Fi service.

Korean Air will deploy the 787-10 Dreamliner on July 25, 2024. The first route it will serve is Seoul Incheon-Tokyo Narita. Later, the aircraft will be used on longer routes to western Canada (Vancouver), the western USA and Europe.
