Ineos Unveils First Limited Edition Grenadier And More At Goodwood

Arcane Works will make only 200 units of its first official creation.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed 2024, which runs until July 14, is where UK-based Ineos Automotive decided to put on a proper show. Showcased in its reserved space are multiple Grenadier prototypes, which might join the firm’s portfolio with a price tag in the future. Also, sharing the spotlight is the first limited-edition Grenadier created by Arcane Works, Ineos’ in-house division for creating customised and personalised specimens.

Ineos Grenadier Detour

Arcane Works has named its first limited-run project the Grenadier Detour. Intriguing name? Well, per George Ratcliffe, commercial director at Ineos Automotive:

Grenadier Detour felt like a fitting name as the Grenadier is for people who enjoy driving, and sometimes it’s worth taking the longer route.

Unveiled for the first time at Goodwood, the Grenadier Detour brings several customisation options for its buyer. Under the bonnet, one could get a turbocharged 3.0-litre diesel engine or 3.0-litre turbo-petrol, both sourced from BMW. Those opting for the latter will also get a custom exhaust system to add more theatre.

The Ineos Grenadier Detour will also be distinguishable due to several other exclusive inclusions. The list starts with the 18-inch forged alloy wheels, complemented by a restyled front grille with headlight surrounds and four new dedicated body colours – Magma Red, Whiteout Blue, Squall Green and Storm Force Silver. Arcane Works also extends the possibility of matching the colour of any subject the buyer wishes to bring in as a sample. The option of adding the contrast pack is also available. That colours the front and rear skid plates, roof rails and rear ladder in the chosen shade. To add a touch of elegance, the exterior lighting has been decoloured.

Like the exterior, the buyer can customise the interior of the Grenadier Detour. There’s a choice of two satin finishes for the transmission tunnel, doors and air vents, mated with tactile leathers and fabrics for the main driver touch points. Next, there’s the option to choose among four fine-grain leathers for the quilted seat upholstery and two kinds of cashmere for the headliner. All models have a laser-etched aluminium door scuff plate and Arcane Works badging for the interior and exterior.

Ineos will make only 200 examples of the Grenadier Detour.

Potential Future Grenadier Variants

Among the biggest strengths of a ladder-on-frame chassis are its versatility and robustness. Taking advantage of that DNA, LeTech from Germany partnered with Ineos Automotive to introduce modifications for the Grenadier Station Wagon and Quartermaster Pick-Up. Both can be affixed with portal axles, offset wheel hubs, and larger off-road rubber. The additions increase the ground clearance by 250mm to 514mm and improve wading depth from 800mm to 1,050mm.

The shortened Quartermaster Pick-Up, aptly and wittingly named ‘Shortermaster’, is the creation of Ineos engineers. The Hambach production plant in France was their play area. They reduced the wheelbase by 305mm and pushed the rear seats forward to increase the load bay.

Another intriguing prototype has a V8. Which one? The 6.2-litre petrol powerplant from General Motors. Known to power several vehicles under the GM umbrella, the engine produces 425hp/625Nm. Almost everything had to change to inject the bigger engine under the bonnet, including the engine mounts, electrics, electronics, water and oil cooling systems, the exhaust manifold, rear silencer, transmission bearings and head shields. The V8-powered Grenadier is a project for Ineos partner Magna’s engineering trainees for them to get some hands-on experience.

How about an eight-seater Grenadier? Botswana-based Ineos Kavango has converted a Quartermaster Pick-Up to seat eight in a three-row configuration. The prototype also promises tougher off-roading protection using front and side protection bars. Exclusive alloy wheels accompanied by off-road tyres to take on the most challenging terrains round off the changes.

Lastly, a FIA-compliant Grenadier built by Buzz Special Vehicles is also on display. It has been conceived to compete in the 2025 World Rally-Raid Championship. Powering it is the BMW-sourced 3.0-litre turbo-petrol engine mentioned above. Outputting 349hp/550Nm, rally-spec motor produces about 67hp/100Nm more than the standard output. A sports exhaust system, race suspension, tougher brakes and unique alloy wheels are among the highlights. Of course, the interior has been stripped of all the comforts. Instead, it features a roll cage, racing bucket seats, and carbon interior door panels and roof vents.

There you have it. A lot of exciting stuff to drool over at the Ineos section at the Goodwood Festival of Speed for every off-roading enthusiast.
