Hyundai has unveiled the second generation of the Kona small SUV. The latter repeats the recipe that made the success of the first version with a design that is original to say the least and a wide range of engines. However, it is the interior that has changed the most, showing a notable increase in sophistication thanks to a vastly enriched range of equipment.
In detail, the front of the new Kona features a thin LED strip running across the width of the vehicle. The trapezoidal grille features silver-grey bumpers with protective skis at the bottom. The headlights are cleverly hidden at the ends. In profile, the small SUV highlights its wheel arches with generous raw plastic covers.
The lines are angular to say the least and are similar to those of the Tucson. The design of the rims is also striking. The stern once again has a light strip with lights pushed back to the ends as on the first Kona. The new Kona is 4.36m long, 15cm longer than the previous model.
On board, it is the great metamorphosis with two screens of 12,3 inches placed in a row. With the use of coloured inserts and warm colours, the interior is much more modern than in the past. The gearshift is moved to the steering column to free up space between the front occupants. Rear seat space is expected to improve due to the increased length of the vehicle. Hyundai did not give any details about the equipment.
Under the bonnet, the new Kona remains faithful to the first model with essentially electrified powertrains. There should be a 48V mild hybrid, a full hybrid and a fully electric model. No information has yet been released by the Korean brand. The new Kona is expected to arrive in dealerships at the end of 2023.
