Hublot unveils a new version of the Classic Fusion

The Classic Fusion Yohji Yamamoto All Black Camo is Hublot’s fourth collaboration with the legendary Japanese fashion brand.

Hublot has introduced the Classic Fusion Yohji Yamamoto All Black Camo. It is the Swiss watch brand’s fourth collaboration with the Japanese brand where they unite once again to redefine the art of black.” The Classic Fusion Yohji Yamamoto All Black Camo is a limited edition of 300 pieces.

“For both creators, black is not absence, it is essence. Hublot pioneered the All Black concept in 2006, where light is defined by volume and texture, beyond its colour. When Yohji Yamamoto first presented the collection in Paris in 1981, the black silhouettes were seen as revolutionary, an anti-fashion statement that freed creation from decoration. At Hublot, black is sculpted through material: matte ceramics, smoked sapphire, surfaces that play with shadow. For Yohji Yamamoto, black is woven through fabric: wool, silk, cotton layered to breathe and shift. Both treat black as visible and invisible.”

Key Features

Functions and Operations

Central hours, minutes, and seconds. Date at 3 o’clock. Winding, time-setting, and adjusting the date is performed via the crown at 3 o’clock.

Dial

Image: “Camouflage, reimagined in Yohji Yamamoto’s language, becomes a study in movement and material. On the Classic Fusion All Black Camo, the pattern appears as monochrome relief, black on black, dynamic under changing light.” The brand’s name at 12 o’clock and Yohji Yamamoto’s signature at 6 o’clock are incorporated on the sapphire crystal, and not on the dial. Dial features black and grey camo printing.

“Black is modest and arrogant at the same time.” – Yohji Yamamoto.

Case

Image: Hublot’s expertise with materials and colours is second to none in the watch industry. Notice the 6 H-shaped titanium screws (black plated polished titanium) on the bezel and 2 each on the case near the lugs – a signature design feature of the brand. (Image credit: Yohji Yamamoto website.)

Case, bezel, and caseback are made from microblasted black ceramic. Diameter: 42 mm. Thickness: 10.4 mm. Dial side features a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment. Caseback features a smoked sapphire crystal showcasing “the MHUB1110 Hublot automatic calibre and its skeletonized rotor while preserving a monochrome mystery.” Water resistant up to 5 ATM or 50 metres.

The black strap is crafted from fabric and rubber and is fitted to a “black-plated steel and black-plated steel deployant buckle.”

Movement

Powered by HUB1110, an automatic movement that drives the hours, minutes, seconds, and date. It is based on the dependable Sellita SW300, and easily serviceable by qualified watchmakers worldwide.. Parts: 177. Jewels: 25. Frequency: 28,800 vph or 4 Hz, a modern beat rate that provides stable timekeeping. Power reserve: 48 hours (approximately).

“For Yohji Yamamoto, black reveals what truly matters, it purifies form, letting silhouette and texture speak. At Hublot, we treat black as a living material, sculpted, layered, folded where each surface interacts differently with light. This project marks our very first collaboration on a Classic Fusion model, and together, we share the belief that luxury is not what shines, but what endures.” – Julien Tornare, CEO of Hublot.

Our Thoughts

Image: The fabric and rubber strap looks super comfortable. The watch is pictured next to its “all black” box, featuring  Yohji Yamamoto’s signature (centre) and encircled by a larger imitation of the watch’s bezel with the 6 H-shaped screws. (Image credit: Yohji Yamamoto website.)

The colour black can make a watch attractive and timeless. A. Lange & Söhne’s Saxonia Thin with its “jet-black, glossy onyx dial,” F.P. Journe’s new Chronomètre Furtif with its “mirror-polished anthracite grey grand feu enamel” dial, Moser’s Streamliner Genesis 2 with its Vantablack® dial, and Patek Philippe’s Calatrava 5227G-010 with its “lacquered black” dial are examples. These watches do not “compete” with each other, nor with the Classic Fusion Yohji Yamamoto All Black Camo. They are mentioned to illustrate different interpretations of black dials, of which the Hublot is a fantastic example.

The Classic Fusion Yohji Yamamoto All Black Camo is Classic Hublot. It highlights the best of the brand – the iconic Classic Fusion design (an icon in its own right), material innovation (black ceramic case), and collaboration with a legendary Japanese fashion brand; the latter providing a cultural context for which Hublot is renowned. It will appeal to collectors of the brand, and those who appreciate global artistic collaborations.
