220% better? The surprising science behind Huawei FreeBuds Pro 5

• Huawei launches the world’s first earbuds featuring a dual-engine ANC architecture. • An advanced MIMO AI model processes ambient noise 400,000 times per second. • The flagship device delivers master-level lossless audio at a stable 2.3 Mbps rate.

How is the noise cancelled?

The Huawei FreeBuds Pro 5 introduces a new way to block sound. Specifically, the earbuds utilise two independent drivers as dedicated noise engines. A low-frequency driver handles steady rumbles, while a micro planar driver cancels sharp, high-pitched sounds. Furthermore, an AI model processes environmental data 400,000 times per second to calibrate these drivers. Consequently, this dual-system architecture improves noise cancellation performance by up to 220 per cent compared to the previous generation.

How is the sound quality?

Beyond silence, these earbuds deliver high-resolution audio fidelity. They employ L2HC 4.0 technology to deliver lossless audio at up to 2.3 Mbps when paired with compatible Huawei flagships. By separating high and low frequencies through independent drivers, the hardware produces crisp treble and deep, textured bass. Similarly, users can toggle between four distinct “HUAWEI SOUND” profiles: Balanced, Voice, Classical, and Bass, via the official app.

What is the new design?

The “Star Oval” design features a diamond-cut surface for a premium aesthetic. The charging case is also 5.5 per cent smaller for better portability. Regarding aesthetics, Huawei offers four nature-inspired colours: Snowy White, Frost Silver, Azure Sky, and Earth Gold. While most versions use a smooth, skin-friendly finish, the Azure Sky edition features eco-friendly vegan leather. Additionally, the earbuds carry an IP57 rating for robust dust and water resistance.

Can you hear your surroundings?

The hardware does more than block noise; it facilitates environmental awareness. For instance, an AI-powered Awareness Mode blends external sounds into your audio in a natural way. Likewise, the Adaptive Volume feature modifies output levels based on real-time ambient noise. Therefore, your media remains clear whether you are in a quiet office or a gusty outdoor environment.

Can they connect to two devices?

The FreeBuds Pro 5 supports seamless dual-device connectivity. As a result, audio switching occurs automatically based on your priority. For example, the earbuds will pause a movie on your laptop so you can answer a call on your smartphone. Furthermore, the Audio Sharing feature allows two separate pairs of Huawei earbuds to listen to the same source simultaneously.

How is the battery performance?

In terms of endurance, these earbuds provide up to nine hours of playback on a single charge with ANC disabled. However, enabling ANC brings the runtime to approximately six hours. The charging case extends the total listening time to 38 hours. Meanwhile, a quick 40-minute charge restores the earbuds to full capacity, and the case supports both USB-C and 5W wireless charging.

Are the voice calls clear?

Huawei has enhanced the call experience with three microphones and a bone-conduction sensor. This hardware combination isolates your voice while filtering background noise up to 100 dB. In addition, the internal architecture is designed to resist wind interference. Consequently, your voice remains intelligible even when walking in winds of up to 10 metres per second.

How can you buy them in the UAE?

The Huawei FreeBuds Pro 5 will soon arrive in the UAE. You can purchase them through official Huawei Experience Stores and authorised retail partners. The earbuds are expected to retail for approximately AED 749, since the FreeBuds Pro 4 cost AED 699. For the best experience, users should install the HUAWEI Audio Connect app to manage firmware updates and personalised sound settings.
