Girard-Perregaux launches Casquette 2.0 Saint Laurent 02

“In the 1970s, the Casquette embraced new technologies, new materials and a new design. The new Girard-Perregaux Casquette 2.0 Saint Laurent 02 is as practical as ever, yet as avant-garde.”

Girard-Perregaux has just launched the Casquette 2.0 Saint Laurent 02. It is Girard-Perregaux’s third model of the reinterpreted 1970’s futuristic timepiece. It was introduced in 1976, “affectionately dubbed “Casquette” by enthusiasts.”  ”It remains coveted by collectors and fashion aficionados for its enduring retro-futuristic appeal.”  “Disruptive,” “Innovative”  and “Unorthodox”  were expressed during its launch. Girard-Perregaux made a total of 8200 pieces of the Makrolon, steel and gold-plated versions during its production lifetime from 1976 until 1978.

Girard-Perregaux first reinterpreted this 1970’s icon in 2022, named the Casquette 2.0. While it resembled and “shared much in common with the 70’s original”, it undoubtedly evolved into a modern timepiece. The 2022 version’s case was made of black ceramic and titanium. It shared resemblance with the 1970’s Makrolon reference. Makrolon is a light and robust composite material.

In 2023, Girard-Perregaux collaborated with Saint Laurent Rive Droite for the second model of the reinterpreted Casquette. Saint Laurent Rive Droite is a “creative and cultural destination curated by Anthony Vaccarello”  located among two of the most prestigious fashion addresses in the world: 213, rue Saint-Honoré 75001 Paris, and 469 Rodeo Drive, Los Angeles. This collaboration resulted in “an exclusive interpretation of the Casquette; a vision in black dressed in a stealthy suit of black ceramic and Grade 5 titanium.”  This version of the Casquette 2.0 featured a scratch resistant ceramic case and a grade-5 titanium caseback.

Owing to this successful collaboration, both Girard-Perregaux and Saint Laurent Rive Droit embarked on yet another interpretation of the Casquette for 2024, the Casquette 2.0 Saint Laurent 02. It is the third model of the reinterpreted Casquette, and second collaboration with Saint Laurent Rive Droite. Anthony Vaccarello of Saint Laurent Rive Droite has given the Casquette a fresh look of silver-grey tones and crafted in grade-5 titanium, “a lightweight alloy that delivers a host of wearer benefits.”  It is “light, strong, stiff, corrosion resistant, non-magnetic and hypoallergenic.”
