Etihad And Ethiopian Detail Their New Codeshare

It’s the first of many initiatives the duo plans to boost tourism under their agreed-upon and signed-on-for JV.

After inking an agreement to form a joint venture earlier this year, Etihad Airways and Ethiopian Airlines have taken their first step toward making the efforts worthwhile. The national carriers of the UAE and Ethiopia have officially activated a codeshare agreement, something on both their priority lists, in addition to launching new services between Abu Dhabi and Addis Ababa. Where Ethiopian Airlines will begin nonstop flights between the capitals from July 15, 2025, Etihad Airways has scheduled the launch for October 8, 2025. That’s a week later than initially expected.

The codeshare between Etihad and Ethiopian is bound to boost tourism and trade between their countries. It’s also worth noting that passengers planning trips can shrug off several tedious tasks from their planning. The agreement between the two airlines will allow travellers to make a single booking with one check-in process at the beginning of their journey, while their baggage is automatically checked through to their final destination.

Under this newly formed partnership, Etihad Airways passengers will get access to Ethiopian Airlines’ connections to 55 destinations across 33 countries via Addis Ababa. The list includes Entebbe, Kinshasa, Kigali, Lusaka, Harare and Victoria Falls. On the other hand, those travelling with Ethiopian Airlines can book itineraries using Etihad-operated flights through its home hub, Abu Dhabi, with onward connections to 20 destinations across Asia, Australia, and the Middle East. The names include Sydney, Krabi, Colombo and Phnom Penh.
