Emirates To Deploy First Upgraded Boeing 777 This August

Geneva, Tokyo and Brussels will be the first three cities to be served by the airline’s revamped 777s.

Under what has become the largest retrofit programme in the aviation industry, with an investment of more than USD 3 billion, Emirates has lined up a total of 191 aircraft for a complete interior revamp. Of them, 81 are Boeing 777s, and the first of them is now undergoing refurbishment. The nose-to-tail facelift of the interior will take about two weeks before the twin-engined widebody is ready to take to the skies.

The Dubai-based airline has also confirmed the names of the first three cities the upgraded Boeing 777s will serve. On August 11, 2024, the to and from service from Geneva, with flights EK83 and EK84, is the round trip on which Emirates will deploy its first revamped 777. The second will be on flights EK312 and EK313 from September 1, 2024. Those connect Dubai with Tokyo Haneda. The third will be the Dubai-Brussels route from September 11, 2024. Flights EK183 and EK184 complete the round trip between the two cities.

So, what is part of the retrofitting programme? Besides refurbishing the First Class cabin, the aircraft will have 38 new Business Class seats in a 1-2-1 layout and 24 Premium Economy seats. Rounding off the passenger seating will be 256 Economy seats. Passengers in the Business Class will have a variety of creature comforts, including a seat that converts into a bed, easy aisle access for every passenger, a touchscreen seat controller for in-flight entertainment and seat operation, a 23-inch HD screen, a mini-bar, a large table, charging outlets and stowage for personal devices, among others. The aircraft will also have a small bar for travellers in the Business Class.

Emirates plans to serve more than 36 destinations with Premium Economy by February next year, with the Airbus A350 joining its fleet in September 2024. Moreover, additional revamped Airbus A380s and Boeing 777s will enter service in the coming months.
