Dubai Airshow 2025: Gulf Air and Boeing make their 787 deal better

The Bahrain-based airline strengthens its long-haul fleet with a firm order for 15 787s and options for three more.

What does the agreement involve?

Boeing and Gulf Air have finalised a firm order for 15 787 Dreamliners, with options for three additional aircraft. Signed at the Dubai Airshow 2025, the deal expands Gulf Air’s earlier commitment and brings its total order book to 17 widebody jets.

Who signed the deal?

The agreement was formalised by Martin Gauss, chief executive officer of Gulf Air, and Brad McMullen, Boeing senior vice president of Commercial Sales and Marketing. Khalid Husain Taqi, chairman of Gulf Air Group, said the order advances the airline’s long-term fleet strategy, boosting capacity, sustainability and passenger experience while reinforcing its partnership with Boeing.

Why is the 787 central to Gulf Air?

The Dreamliner is integral to Gulf Air’s long-haul operations, connecting more than 50 destinations across Asia, Europe and the United States. With 10 already in service, the airline is positioned to expand its network and enhance customer comfort.

What advantages does the aircraft offer?

The 787 is recognised for fuel efficiency, extended range and passenger-friendly design. Features include larger windows, lower cabin altitude, improved air quality and turbulence-sensing technology. Boeing’s Stephanie Pope welcomed Gulf Air’s decision, noting the Dreamliner will remain the cornerstone of its fleet.
