Dubai Airshow 2025: Ethiopian orders six new Airbus A350s

The new order further cements the carrier’s position as the leading operator in Africa.

What has Ethiopian Airlines announced?

Ethiopian Airlines has placed a firm order for six Airbus A350-900 aircraft, strengthening its position as the largest A350 operator in Africa. The agreement was signed at the Dubai Airshow 2025 by Group CEO Mesfin Tasew and Airbus EVP Sales Benoît de Saint-Exupéry.

Why is this order significant?

Mr Tasew described the deal as a milestone that supports the airline’s vision of sustainable growth while delivering a world-class travel experience. Airbus highlighted Ethiopian’s role as a benchmark for aviation excellence on the continent.

What does the A350 offer?

The A350 is the world’s most modern widebody aircraft, capable of flying up to 9,700 nautical miles non-stop. Its advanced aerodynamics, lightweight materials and Rolls-Royce engines deliver a 25 per cent improvement in fuel burn, operating costs and CO₂ emissions compared with previous-generation aircraft.

How does this support sustainability?

The aircraft is already able to operate with up to 50 per cent Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), with Airbus targeting 100 per cent SAF capability by 2030.
