Dubai Airshow 2025: Emirates And Boeing Announce New 777X Deal

The latest deal brings Emirates’ order book for the aircraft type to 270.

What is the scale of Emirates’ new Boeing order?

On the opening day of Dubai Airshow 2025, Emirates signed for 65 additional Boeing 777-9s, powered by GE9X engines, worth US$38 billion at list prices. The agreement also includes 130 more GE9X engines, taking its total commitment to 540 units. Emirates’ Boeing backlog now stands at 315 widebody jets: 270 777Xs, 10 freighters and 35 787s.

How many aircraft does Emirates currently operate?

Emirates today flies 269 aircraft, including 116 Airbus A380s, 13 Airbus A350-900s, 119 Boeing 777-300ERs, 10 Boeing 777-200LRs and 11 Boeing 777 freighters. Over its 40-year history, the airline has operated every model in the Boeing 777 family, building the world’s largest 777 fleet and connecting Dubai to more than 140 destinations across six continents.

How many future deliveries is Emirates awaiting?

The airline has 367 aircraft on order, including 52 Airbus A350‑900s, 10 Boeing 777 freighters, 270 Boeing 777‑9s and 35 Boeing 787s. Deliveries of the 777-9 are scheduled to begin in Q2 2027, with the order pipeline extending through to 2038. Each aircraft has been factored into Emirates’ expansion plan, aligned with Dubai’s long-term growth strategy.

What advantages will the 777-9 bring to passengers and operations?

The 777-9 will be the world’s largest twin-engine jet, delivering 20% lower fuel burn and emissions compared to the aircraft it replaces. Passengers will benefit from wider cabins, improved humidity, smoother rides and more natural light. Emirates has also secured options to convert part of its order to the proposed 777‑10 or 777‑8, supporting Boeing’s feasibility study into larger‑capacity variants.

Why is this order significant for Boeing and GE Aerospace?

The deal deepens Emirates’ four‑decade partnership with Boeing and GE Aerospace, sustaining thousands of US manufacturing jobs across multiple states.
