Dubai Airshow 2025: Buraq Air becomes a new Airbus customer

Libya’s first private airline secures 10 aircraft to modernise operations and expand partnerships.

What agreement has been signed?

Buraq Air has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Airbus to buy 10 A320neo Family aircraft. The agreement was officially announced at the Dubai Airshow 2025 by Fouzi Almiqalh, Buraq Air’s General Assembly President, and Benoit de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus’s Executive Vice President of Sales for Commercial Aircraft.

Why is this significant for Buraq Air?

Almiqalh characterised the agreement as a significant milestone in the airline’s fleet modernisation plan. He highlighted that the A320neo’s efficiency and versatility will reinforce Buraq’s main network and assist Medsky Airways, its strategic partner, in improving passenger services across both airlines.

How does Airbus view the partnership?

Saint-Exupéry announced Buraq Air as a new Airbus customer, emphasising the A320neo as the top option for airlines looking to modernise. He also reiterated Airbus’s dedication to aiding Buraq’s growth initiatives.

What makes the A320neo Family distinctive?

The A320 Family is the most popular single-aisle aircraft globally, providing at least 20 per cent fuel savings and CO₂ reductions compared to older models. It boasts one of the widest cabins in its class and can operate with up to 50 per cent Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), with Airbus aiming for 100 per cent SAF capability by 2030.
