The Corvette CX and CX.R Vision Gran Turismo concepts were first unveiled at The Quail, a motorsports gathering, and are the latest and final of several Corvette concepts to be revealed this year. The CX concepts were designed and built at the Chevrolet Performance Studio in Warren, Michigan.

The Corvette CX concept’s design begins with the quintessential Corvette hallmarks. The sporty exterior, highlighted by a fighter jet-inspired canopy, was designed in collaboration with General Motors’ Motorsports Aero Group.

Inside, a digital head-up display transforms the windshield into an immersive surround-view display that delivers real-time performance data. Every major control is elegantly integrated into the steering wheel, keeping the driver focused on the road.

The CX concept is an all-wheel-drive electric supercar with a propulsion system befitting the Corvette name. Four motors, one for each wheel, generate more than 2,000 horsepower, with torque distributed to all four wheels for maximum stability and cornering performance. A 90-kWh lithium-ion battery is mounted in the chassis to ensure a low centre of gravity and optimal front-to-rear weight distribution.

The CX.R Vision Gran Turismo embodies Corvette’s history while looking to the future of automotive performance. Designers evolved the CX’s athletic exterior and enhanced its aggressive character for the CX.R VGT with more pronounced active aerodynamic features and a lower ride height for downforce and track-dominating handling. The entire car has been lightened to emphasise the overall focus on performance.

Inside, the dashboard is made of lightweight raw carbon fibre, and the seats use foam padding wrapped in suede to provide grip and support when needed. The seats themselves feature larger, firmer shoulder and headrest bolsters to give the necessary head and neck support, while complementing the CX.R VGT’s superior handling capabilities.

The CX.R VGT combines electric performance with the thrill of a high-revving V8 engine. A mid-mounted, 2.0-litre, twin-turbo V8 with a double overhead camshaft generates 900 horsepower and revs to 15,000 rpm.

This V8 runs on regenerative e-fuel and drives the rear wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. Three electric motors—one for each front wheel, plus a third integrated into the eight-speed gearbox—provide instant torque for explosive acceleration, contributing to a total system output of 2,000 horsepower.

In partnership with Polyphony Digital, a Sony Interactive Entertainment company, Chevrolet will make the CX and CX.R VGT race concepts available to drive virtually in Gran Turismo 7 later this month, giving new and familiar audiences a chance to experience the future of Corvette design firsthand.
