BMW Globally Unveils the new M1000RR and S 1000 RR for the year 2025

BMW’s 1000cc stalwarts are now more powerful and equipped to take on the competition

After clinching their first World superbike riders title a few weeks ago with their Turkish rider Toprak Razgatliaglo from the defending champion Alvaro Bautista who was onboard the Ducati Panigale V4, BMW has already begun their defence for the 2025 season.

BMW has taken the cover off, of the 2025 BMW M 1000RR and S 1000RR – which now comes with a flurry of both mechanical and electrical updates to go around the track even quicker than their predecessors from 2024, and for the M 1000 RR, every upgrade and bump in power has been done to keep the 2x time world champion Toprak Razgatliaglo and his BMW M1000 RR ahead of pesky Ducati’s next season.

BMW M 1000RR 

The BMW M 1000RR is the model that takes home the medal for the biggest upgrade among the BMW stable’s 1000cc siblings. From more power to enhanced Downforce and electronic aids to put that power down.

The 2025 BMW M 1000RR’s Inline Four is 6hp more powerful than its predecessor, bumping it from 212 hp to 218 hp. These gains were made possible by the full-shaft titanium valves, an increase in compression ratio to 14.5:1 from 13.5:1 (previously), oval-shaped intake and exhaust ports, a modified combustion chamber, larger throttle valves, and a reworked titanium exhaust.

 To perfectly utilise this increase in power around the track bmw has upgrade3d the downforce package – the new and enhanced aero package, thanks to the new Carbon fibre fairing design which BMW calls the M Winglets 3.0, which is now capable of producing 30kg of downforce at the speed of 180 mph (289 km), BMW claims this new aero shall improve the high-speed cornering prowess of the bike without effecting the overall top speed of 195 mph (313 km).

Apart from a heavily upgraded aero package, BMW has also worked on the electronics of the bike – The Dynamic Traction control system now features a slide control setting which is integrated into the traction control system – what this feature does is quite similar to Mclarens Variable drift control, it controls the slip angle of the rear corner based on the settings set by the rider and it manages the power and torque delivery to the rear wheel according to the throttle input and the road surface to give optimum control during slides.

Other notable features are the improvements in the ABS technology,l which BMW call Race Pro ABS which now gets a brake slide assist function and a M- short stroke throttle, which reduces the rotation angle from close to open by 14 degrees for quicker acceleration off the line or while exiting a corner.

The new M 1000RR is offered in two versions, the base M 1000 RRi in the Lightwhite and M Sport and the M 1000 RR M Competition in the Blackstorm metallic.

BMW S 1000RR 

Perhaps the timider of the two siblings, if you can call a 190 kg 207 hp bike timid – but regardless, the S1000 RR is slightly easygoing compared to the M1000 RR – it is slightly down on power and in all honesty it hasn’t changed from the previous model – power figures for the S1000 RR stays the same.

But, just like the M1000 RR, it gets a new front fairing featuring redesigned winglets that produce 23 kg of downforce at 186 mph which is up by 6kg from the 2024 model. The side fairing is also re-designed to optimise the flow of air and make the aero more efficient.

Additionally, the S1000 RR gets a new front wheel cover that’s integrated with the brake duct to aid the cooling. S 1000 RR borrows the M – Short stroke throttle from the M1000 RR.

In the electronics department – the S1000 RR gets a few upgrades and some optional features from last year, which now come as standard, of features are – Along with three standard riding modes, namely – Rain, Road and Dynamic, the BMW S1000 RR get three additional riding modes as standard under the setting of Race Pro Mode.

The ‘Pro’ setting allows the rider to adjust the throttle map with two available settings, adjust the wheelie control and configure engine braking – Similarly, the S1000 RR gets an intelligent ABS which has five different levels of adjustability and an additional system for slick tyre use on track.

The Hyper Nakeds

 Along with the super sports bike BMW has also unveiled the Hypernaked Models – the BMW M 1000 R and BMW S 1000 RR, these are effectively the naked street fighter versions of the super sports model the 1000RR.

They use the same Inline Four engine albeit slightly down on power the M 1000 R produces about 208 hp and the S1000 R packs about 170 hp.

The BMW M 1000 R borrows a few riding techs from the M1000 RR and both M1000RR and S1000RR get the M- Short stroke throttle as standard.
