Big Win for Aston Martin: King Charles III Grants Them a Royal Warrant!

King Charles III’s love affair with Aston Martins continued with him leasing a Virage Volante for over a decade. He even visited Aston Martin’s headquarters and played a key role in opening their new SUV factory.

Buckingham Palace just gave Aston Martin a major thumbs up! The iconic British carmaker has been awarded a Royal Warrant by King Charles III, marking a first in their 111-year history. This is a huge deal, basically saying the King himself recognises Aston Martin’s dedication to building awesome cars that are equal parts stylish, innovative, and well-engineered – all things the Royal Family seems to appreciate.

This Royal Warrant comes hot on the heels of Aston Martin winning the King’s Award for Enterprise, so they’re clearly on a roll. “We’re absolutely buzzing about this Royal Warrant,” said Lawrence Stroll, Aston Martin’s big cheese. “It’s a massive honour and shows the King digs what our team is doing. They’re all about keeping the tradition of British design and craftsmanship alive, which totally lines up with the King’s love for top-notch engineering.”

The Royal Family and Aston Martin go way back. Back in 2020, when he was still Prince Charles, King Charles III officially opened Aston Martin’s fancy new factory in Wales where they built their DBX SUV. This was a pretty big deal, as it marked the first Welsh-made car in over 50 years!

Speaking of King Charles III, the man’s a big car enthusiast, especially when it comes to Aston Martins. He’s actually owned a few himself. In 1970, for his 21st birthday, he got a super cool DB6 MKII Vantage Volante in stunning blue colour. This became his intro to the world of high-performance Aston Martins. He even got driving lessons from a legendary Formula 1 champ, Graham Hill, to learn how to handle the beast properly!

Another interesting Aston Martin in the King’s collection was a special edition V8 Vantage Volante, a gift from a fancy Emir. This car had some unique features, like a special cup holder for his polo ponies’ sugar cubes (talk about posh!) and a sunglasses case where the ashtray would normally be. This car became so popular that Aston Martin built over 20 more just like it for other VIP customers – the “Prince of Wales specification,” as it came to be known.

But the connection between the Royal Family and Aston Martin goes even further back. In 1954, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, got himself a three-litre Lagonda. The following year, Queen Elizabeth II’s cousin, the Duke of Kent, added a DB2/4 to the royal collection – the same car that won the prestigious Monte Carlo Rally in 1955!

This long-lasting relationship between Aston Martin and the Royal Family shows that these British carmakers are all about building exceptional vehicles that are steeped in heritage, cutting-edge technology, and timeless style. The Royal Warrant is a major stamp of approval and a well-deserved recognition of Aston Martin’s incredible legacy.
